Washington Adventist Universityis seeking a science specialist for Dean of the School of HealthProfessions, Science, and Wellness.
Summary
Provides dynamic leadership which seizes opportunities at the Nation's Capital to ensure
sustained enrollment growth, program relevance fiscal vibrancy through which students emerge
through the "Gateway to Service as competent moral leaders by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following and other duties may be assigned.
Leads academic and administrative planning, operation and budgeting for the School.
Demonstrates and fosters excellence in teaching and service; values research.
Works collaboratively with the Provost in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, mentoring and evaluation of faculty; coaching, counseling, and rewarding or disciplining faculty and support staff; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Achieves financial objectives for program and vibrancy by working collaboratively with the Provost and EVP/CFO 2/19/24 by preparing an annual budget; schedules expenditures; analyzes variances; initiates corrective actions.
Oversees academic program assessments and reviews; evaluates viability of programs, recommends closing of existing programs and opening of new programs.
Advises the Provost on academic matters; provides recommendations on academic and administrative policies and procedures for the University by participating on appropriate committees including the Provost's cabinet.
Promotes relationship rich student culture; resolves teacher/student conflicts by collecting and analyzing information; mediating or arbitrating discussion; and makes decisions based on existing policy and information gathered.
Maintains and develops external connections; works with the Provost to develop external collaborations and partnerships.
Manages space and equipment assigned to the School in accordance with compliance guidelines.
Supports and promotes the University mission, visions and values for Christocentric Service minded teaching and learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in one of the sciences
Strong academic background in the sciences including teaching and research
Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with trends and issues in higher education
Experience serving as a department chair
Experience working with undergraduate and graduate science programs
Experience with and understanding of accreditation procedures
Experience working with governmental agencies, including NIH, NSF, and other similar organizations
Familiar with online education, including digital platforms, curriculum development, and new programming development and implementation
Experience in partnership development in both private and public agencies
Experience with IRB processes and regulations, including documentation and monitoring of student and committee members compliance
Experience designing co-curricular programs to prepare students for applications, board exams, e.g. MCAT, NCLEX, etc.
Experience working with academically under-prepared students
Demonstrable experience with learning outcomes assessment
International experience would be a strong asset, particularly working with international students and partnerships
