Counsels and advises patients about growth and development of dental problems and preventive oral health care services. Provides care to patients as assigned. Eliminates irritating margins of fillings and corrects occlusions, using dental instruments. Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues to determine condition, using dental instruments, x-ray, and other diagnostic equipment. Fabricates prosthodontic appliances, such as space maintainers, bridges, dentures, and obturating appliances. Fills pulp chamber and canal with endodontic materials. Fills, extracts, and replaces teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical implements. Fits and adjusts prosthodontic appliances in patients mouth. Formulates plan of treatment for patients teeth and mouth tissue. Treats exposure of pulp by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal, using dental instruments. Treats infected root canal and related tissues. Assures that all required dental forms and records are completed in a timely manner.

    Assists the Dental Director in meeting and maintaining clinic standards and participates in the performance reviews of dental support staff as requested.

    Promotes continuous Quality Improvement for both patient care and service within the guidelines of the IHSs Quality Assurance Plan. QualificationsGraduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree; Two years of experience desirable, preferably in a clinic setting.

    Knowledge of modern methods and principles of general dentistry and dental surgery including its preventive aspects and skill in their application.

    Knowledge of oral hygiene and prevention and treatment of diseases of the mouth. Knowledge of preventative aspects of oral health and its related techniques and procedures. Knowledge of dental health education methods. Knowledge of basic understanding of nutrition. Knowledge of federal, state and county laws, regulations, codes and policies affecting outpatient care.
    Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.


    Must Have the Ability to:
    Prescribe and fit dental prostheses. Analyze and evaluate dental needs accurately and take effective action. Maintain effective working relationships with health care professionals and others. Keep records and prepare reports. Gather complete and accurate information from patients, providers and others.
    Tactfully and effectively deal with patients and co-workers in stressful situations.
    Effectively use computers for word and data processing and records management.
    Analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations.
    Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Other Requirements:
    Must possess a valid dentists license issued by the state of California.
    A valid California drivers license and good driving record. Must be insurable.
