Job Title: Public Services Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Public Services Assistant, you'll provide circulation and customer service support to patrons, overseeing building activities during evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Supervise student employees and their training.
• Offer Library and technology assistance to patrons.
• Ensure orderliness of the building during evening and weekend shifts.
• Handle circulation services and assist patrons with inquiries.
• Collaborate with Library staff on programming and outreach activities.
• Help patrons with equipment use and troubleshoot issues.
• Perform other assigned duties contributing to Library operations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

% of Time

• 60%: Provide customer and circulation services.
• 20%: Supervise students and monitor building operations.
• 10%: Maintain stacks and shelve books.
• 10%: Complete projects and assignments.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to work nights and weekends.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Positive attitude and focus on customer service.
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in specialized Library software and equipment.
• Commitment to diversity and working with a varied clientele.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Stationary position about 50% of the time.
• Ability to operate office equipment and lift weight up to 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

• High School diploma required; additional education or experience preferred.
• Minimum one year of relevant experience.
• Library experience is a plus.
