    Job summary

    Are you a Registered Nurse or Midwife with a special interest and commitment to improving the Health and Social outcomes for children and families? Harrogate District Foundation Trust is currently recruiting to full/part time Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse student posts), to commence training in September for 52/104 weeks depending on the route chosen. On completion of the course within timescales you will secure a permanent School Nurse position.

    Students will be aligned to a practice assessor in either Durham/Darlington/Middlesbrough/Stockton or Sunderland. The academic element of the course will be hosted by Teesside University.

    As a School Nurse you can make a real difference to children, families and communities. You will play a fundamental role monitoring child development, safeguarding children, preventing social exclusion and deprivation and tackling important public health issues. Every day working as a School Nurse is different, with responsibilities including home visits, working in Schools and other community venues, running support groups for parents and working with a range of local children's agencies and professionals.

    School Nurses have the opportunity to work flexibly in the community and are a crucial part of the healthcare team. It is a diverse role which involves being part of a wider team who provide you with support as you work to improve the health of local families.

    Main duties of the job

    Training

    T he new NMC Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Standards of Proficiency and are looking to offer an apprenticeship route which leads to the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification together with the academic award of a postgraduate diploma. To be eligible to apply for training the applicant must

  • Have an NMC-valid registration as either a Level 1 registered nurse or midwife capable of safe and effective practice at a level of proficiency for the intended field of SCPHN practice before
  • Hold a degree at 2:2 or above
  • Have employer support and protected learning time whether NHS or non-NHS funded.
  • Successful interview and subject to: A suitable SCPHN placement and Practice Assessor and Supervisor who all meet the quality governance aspects of the programme and will contribute to the teaching and assessment process and provide the student with practice learning opportunities.
  • Evidence of a current satisfactory enhanced DBS; this will be carried out by their employing organisation
  • Students will be able to make use of Teesside University's Recognition of Prior Learning (PRL) policy provided they meet the criteria for this.
