- Attains thorough and accurate patient and family history.
- Performs physical eye exam, measure the eyes optical system, visual fields, basic ocular motility and other vision and diagnostic tests.
- Takes ocular and systemic history.
- Accurately records visual acuity.
- Collects ophthalmic measurements and other diagnostic information.
- Plans and organizes patient care tasks to ensure optimal time and resource utilization.
- Assists physicians in performing ophthalmic procedures.
- Prepares and administers eye medications.
- Provides eye care and contact lens information to patient.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to a select group of patients.
Technicians are involved in basic and advanced ophthalmic procedures that aid the physician in the diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions of the eye.
