    The Summer Camp Counselor assists in the planning, leading, and implementation of all summer camp activities and outdoor environmental education programs.

    Essential Functions
    • Assists in maintaining accurate program records.
    • Prepares for and actively participates in pre- and post-camp training, meetings, and wrap-up sessions.
    • Learns, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp and program areas which includes being responsible for campers' safety and their whereabouts.
    • Ability to observe camper behavior, and assess its appropriateness; enforces appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures; and applies appropriate behavior management techniques.
    • Works as a member of a team to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
    • Provides customer service to visitors for an exceptional park experience.
    Non-Essential
    • Organizes and maintains the environmental education supplies and materials.
    • Performs light housekeeping activities to ensure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of the Environmental Discovery Center (EDC).
    • Performs all other related duties as required.
    Qualifications
    • Requires, at minimum, a high school diploma with at least one year of experience working with youth. Elementary Education classes and/or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, or a related field are preferred.
    • Requires a valid S.C. driver's license.
    • Canoe/kayak training preferred.
    • CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to pass a certification course upon hire.
    • Must have the physical ability to organize, lead, and participate in, a variety of group activities each week. Activities such as crafts, nature hikes, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, archery, canoeing/kayaking, Family Night, etc.
    • Works as needed on holidays, weekdays, weekends and/or evenings.

    • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 30 lb. objects regularly.
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
