    Position Purpose

    Under the direct supervision of the Beacon Director, the position's primary role is to provide and maintain a safe and enriching learning environment for the students and families at Carver ES and ensure students are always properly supervised.

    This position is full time 30 hours weekly (Monday to Friday 12pm-6pm) during the school year and then 40 hours weekly (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm) for summer programming (June 5- July 21, 2023) supporting our Carver Elementary School.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide push-in classroom support for students and teachers related to academic, enrichment, and social-emotional learning services.
    • Lead, supervise, and coordinate healthy and engaging activities during morning & lunch recess in collaboration with Playworks & partnership with Carver students, teachers, administrative staff and volunteers.
    • Ensure all data expectations assigned to this role are executed daily and effectively related to student participation, program documentation, and data reporting.
    • Plan and implement creative and engaging programs and activities in areas including arts, recreation, literacy, and STEM.
    • With the coaching and shared leadership of the Beacon Director and Asst. Beacon Director, create program goals, objectives, and outcomes that support program staff, student engagement, and program quality.
    • Operate with a youth development perspective and provide a safe environment for students to participate and learn joyfully.
    • Maintain and support youth with a positive approach to behavior health that aligns with the Beacon policies and procedures.
    • Assist in and provide crisis intervention & follow-up, including mandated reporting when necessary.
    • Attend, implement, and support all BGCSF & Carver meetings, trainings, policies, and procedures.
    • Maintain the BGCSF Health & Nutrition policies.
    Collaboration with Carver ES community
    • Maintain positive communication with the Carver ES administration, teachers, and staff to support youth academics, youth engagement, and social-emotional learning.
    • Build relationships with Carver families to ensure that communication about Beacon programs and activities are shared and supported.

    • Be on-time and ready for work every day.
    • Communicate issues and challenges with the Beacon Director and/or Assistant Director with a positive perspective and respond to emails and other communication in a timely manner.
    Requirements

    Required Skills
    • AA degree or some credits earned from an accredited college or university or equivalent youth development experience.
    • Experience working with elementary-aged students in a youth development setting.
    • The ability to create and maintain strong, positive relationships with youth and families.
    • Strong positive approach to discipline with youth.
    • Ability to be a role model and leader for youth and manage a classroom or group of youth.
    • Ability to use a PC computer, including the ability to accurately enter data and use Microsoft Suite, Google Workplace, Canva, and other related software required for the position.
    • Ability to create and follow systems and procedures assigned and delegated by the Beacon Director/ Asst. Director.
    • Familiar with working with youth with social, emotional, academic, and behavioral challenges.
    • Comfortable driving company vehicles - 12 person van.
    • Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
    Preferred Skills
    • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent youth development experience in grades K - 5th.
    • Experience working with diverse elementary-aged students and families in a youth development setting.
    • Language Skills: Spanish and English
    Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
    • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
    • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

    Pay

    The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range starts at $22 per hour.
