    JOB SUMMARY

    The Library Aide will provide library service and programming to children and young adults and assist patrons in finding materials. Library Aide will report to the Library Manager for direction and delegation of duties. This position is part-time, seasonal at 19.5 hours per week.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Performs routine duties including shelving, shelf reading, realigning the collection, checking books in and out, and answering telephones.
    • Collects fines; receives and exchanges money; records money received; processes payments for lost books.
    • Provides information of a general nature or refers patrons to the appropriate staff member.
    • Accepts patrons' registrations; enters registration information into computer.
    • Prepares new materials for use in the Library; affixes labels, dates, library address, plastics covers, etc. as needed to a variety of items.
    • Assists patrons with computer use.
    • Assists with the delivery of special reading programs and services (children, adult, young adult).
    • Assists in conducting library tours for children, classes, and civic groups.
    • Assists patrons in locating books and materials.
    • Maintains orderly appearance of library shelves, tables, racks, and display areas; cleans copiers and computers.
    • May be assigned to work special events and programs such as Movies in the Park, Fourth of July, and other Library events.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to motivate children and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
    • Skill in data collection and analyzing, word processing and preparation of reports and programs.
    • Skill in First Aid and CPR.
    • Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically
    • Ability to follow simple oral directions
    • Ability to interact with others
    • Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: climbing, fingering, handling, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, and visual acuity.
