- BS in engineering or packaging engineering required.
- Required 2 to 5 years' experience providing primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging development support in a consumer products, durable goods, food or beverage industry
- Highly organized, self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt well to changing schedules and prioritize multiple projects.
- Demonstrated results in the selection and application of sound engineering practices and principles to the design and development of high volume consumer products packaging.
- Broad understanding of the fundamentals of consumer packaging development with a working knowledge of materials, equipment, and processes required in the production of consumer packaging, particularly liquid, aerosols and flexible packages.
- Demonstrated project management skills for packaging changes and packaging introductions.
- Solid organization, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to contribute within a multi-functional team environment
- Creative, highly motivated self-driven individual with the demonstrated ability to independently complete complex engineering tasks as well as with various levels of the organization.
- Extrusion Blow and Injection molding experience preferred.
- Experience working with vendors, business partners and manufacturing operations.
- Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel and Project experience a plus.
- Packaging software experience, CAPE and SpecRight a plus
- Experienced in risk management and quality assurance operations.

Mattel, Inc. is seeking a creative Packaging Engineer to join its team of innovative packaging professionals.
This position has the possibility to work on both IP brands like Hot Wheels, Barbie, Matchbox as well as a variety of licensed brands like Disney Cars, Toy Story, WWE, Jurassic World and many others.
This position is located at Mattel's Handler Team Center at its Worldwide Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.
We are seeking a creative packaging individual who is involved in the package design process (not just production process) and proficient in Artios CAD and 3D modeling (i.e.
We are seeking a team centric individual that will work and collaborate with internal Packaging Design Staff, Marketing, Product Design, Project Managers and our counterparts Overseas.
We encourage innovative thinkers and go-getters This is a highly creative team working on a variety of packages and brands for an extensive line of playful and engaging products.
What Your Impact Will Be:
As a Packaging Engineer, this individual will design and develop innovative structural packaging solutions to support worldwide product launches through a good knowledge of technology and materials.
The ideal candidate must possess the ability to:
Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage
Design 3D structures that compliment and protect complex products
Originate a package concept for cost estimate and provide different packaging solutions and cost savings
Work on various projects concurrently and adhere to packaging and business schedules
Work cohesively and collaboratively in a team environment; to create standard engineering drawings and to have direct experience working with paper materials plus multiple plastics.
Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers.
Act as liaison and creative engineering partner with our China team.
Participate in various team/department/management meetings.
Support several toy fair requirements throughout the year.

What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's Degree
1-3 years of Packaging or Industrial Design experience preferred.
Highly creative individual with ability to develop innovative package solutions.
Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and capable of generating detailed packaging specs. Must have experience re-thinking package designs with new, innovative visions.
Experience working in a team environment, under tight deadlines, building strong relationships.
Proficiency in Artios CAD and 3-D modeling.
Competencies Required:
Originate a package concept for cost estimate and provide different packaging solutions and cost savings
Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage.
Design 3D structures that complement and protect complex products.
Able to work on various projects concurrently.
Adherence to packaging/business schedules.
Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers. In general, the ability to clearly communicate to any number of people.
Ability to create Mattel standard engineering drawings.
Strong organizational skills and proven ability to take initiative.
The annual base salary range for this position is between $78,000 and $98,000.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate's work location, skills and experience.
