    MRI Technologist Role at Cleveland Clinic

    The MRI Technologist role at Cleveland Clinic is responsible for performing MRI exams and procedures on patients of all ages, while maintaining patient safety.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepares and checks patients prior to the MRI procedure.
    • Acquires and reviews patient information to determine contraindications for an MRI examination.
    • Verifies and validates patient screening safety forms.
    • Performs MRI procedures as required per protocol and conducts daily quality assurance checks.
    • Conducts venipunctures and maintains relevant competencies.
    • Provides education to patients regarding MRI procedures, equipment, and exams.
    • Ensures patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.
    • Assists with scheduling patients.
    • Administers contrast agents related to patient examinations.
    • Acquires, archives, transmits, and prints images via PACS systems.
    • Completes after-hours transmissions of images and relevant paperwork.
    • Reports any malfunctions and observes potential equipment dysfunctions, reporting issues or requesting service.
    • Maintains equipment up-time at the highest level for patient accessibility.
    • Processes billing through RIS systems.
    • Instructs and mentors new hires and radiology students.
    • Learns new technical information and skills.
    • Attends in-service programs and professional affiliation sessions.
    • Potentially rotates through various imaging modalities, sites, and/or locations.

    Requirements:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or an accredited institution per the primary pathway of the ARRT.
    • Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in good standing, or a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
    • Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging: R.T.(MR)(ARRT) within one year of hire.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

    Complexity of Work:

    • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and related pathologic processes.
    • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to provide excellent care to patients and families.
    • Ability to function well with minimal or no direct supervision.

    Work Experience:

    • Minimum one year experience as a General Radiologic Technologist or experience in other imaging modalities preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.
    • Requires frequent pushing and pulling of equipment up to 75 pounds.
