    Reports to the Clinical Manager.

    Under general supervision of a Physical Therapist performs physical therapy treatments directed toward relieving pain and/or restoring physical functions within the patient home.

    Performs directed physical therapy procedures as selected by the Physical Therapist (i.e.

    , therapeutic exercises) established in patient care plan to maintain and restore strength, range of motion, endurance, coordination and function by:


    • Discussing the treatment plan as outlined by the Physical Therapist with patients and their families to allay anxieties and elicit cooperation.
    • Administering treatments using therapeutic equipment, machines or assistive or supportive devices as outlined by the Physical Therapist.
    • Preparing progress notes and recording daily treatments according to established criteria.
    • Training and directing patients in the use and care of wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches and other special equipment.
    • Observing reactions and responses of patients and reporting observations to the Physical Therapist, Physician or allied healthcare personnel.
    • Informing the appropriate Physical Therapist of changes in the patients' condition, which may lead to modification of the treatment plan.
    Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:


    • Attending in-services and department meetings; also participating in continuing education and attending conferences as approved.
    • Maintaining professional affiliations as appropriate.
    • Reading current professional literature and journals.
    • Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed
    • Instructing members of other healthcare disciplines in standard methods of performing tasks such as: transfers, ambulation, positioning of patients and body mechanics

    ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

    • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
    • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
    • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
    • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
    • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
    • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
    • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
    • Complies with established organization and department policies.
    • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

    Education and Experience


    • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a two-year college level program for Physical Therapy with subsequent certification as a certified physical therapy assistant and current Michigan certification.

    • Requires a basic knowledge of physical therapy techniques and theory and experience in applying these techniques.
    • Demonstrates analytical skills necessary for evaluation of the patients' condition in order to make accurate observations and report changes in patient behavior and performance.
    • Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families and staff members in a professional, courteous, friendly, sincere and understanding manner which projects a positive image.
    Working Conditions


    • Work is performed in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities, possible exposure to biohazards and normal hazards encountered in a community environment.
