    Description
    Nature of Work


    Responsibility for performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems.

    Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman.

    Essential Functions of Work


    • Hauls material in a tandem axle dump truck to and from job sites.
    • Assists in maintaining and repairing the water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems to achieve efficient operations.
    • Responds to emergency calls outside of normal work hours.
    Education and Experience


    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • One year of experience in water and sewer system repair and maintenance desirable.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Candidate must possess a valid Montana Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.


    As of January 6, 2020, employers of CDL drivers must query the Clearinghouse to verify that a current or prospective driver is not prohibited from operating CMVs or performing other safety sensitive functions.

    Requirements of Work


    • Ability to drive and operate a tandem axle dump truck and a frontend loader.
    • Basic knowledge of water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems and appropriate repair and maintenance methods.
    • Ability to respond to emergency calls outside of normal working hours.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors and the general public.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
    This position does not supervise staff.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.

    The employee is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, crawl, kneel, reach, grasp, push, pull, ride and perform similar body movements.

    Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate hand and power tools various maintenance and repair equipment, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone or two way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.


    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
    The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.


    TRAVEL
    Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
