    Under general supervision, and with a primary focus on executive and administrative support for the Chief of Police, Deputy Police Chief, and the Office of Professional Standards, this position performs a wide range of administrative and management tasks in the Police Department. Requiring discretion, diplomacy, confidentiality, and professionalism, this position is responsible for ensuring that citizen inquiries and complaints are acknowledged and addressed by the Office of Professional Standards.

    • Manages assigned projects and tasks to achieve goals; monitors and reconciles assigned budgets.
    • Provides administrative support to the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, and Office of Professional Standards.
    • Maintains the trust and confidence of the Command Staff.
    • Supervises and trains administrative assistants assigned to various divisions within the department; may supervise support staff, part-time, temporary employees, or volunteers.
    • Composes and edits various reports, correspondence, and other materials requiring judgment regarding content, format, accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality, drafts confidential communications, speeches, presentations, resolutions, ordinances, contracts, administrative policies, and other materials.
    • Schedules and prepares agendas in advance of departmental meetings; prepares and circulates meeting minutes for review/revision following meetings, makes necessary revisions.
    • Researches, compiles, and summarizes various informational or statistical materials from multiple sources; prepares a variety of studies, reports, and related information for decision-making purposes.
    • Responsible for the communication and tracking of all internal department promotions, special assignments, or special duty announcements and processes.
    • Maintains various confidential records, correspondence, and information and is responsible for protecting and maintaining the confidentiality of this information.
    • Maintains an in-depth awareness and knowledge of the Chief's philosophies, goals, and objectives and assists in developing related strategies; works collaboratively with other Town staff.
    • Assists with planning, coordinating, and monitoring special programs or projects.
    • Orders office supplies for the department and trainings.
    • Manages logistics for travel for department members.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

    Requires an associate degree or higher with specialized coursework in business administration, accounting, bookkeeping, or related field, and five (5) years of executive level support experience. Experience in municipal government with five (5) years of supervisory responsibility, specializing in a Law Enforcement environment is preferred.

    Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years driving history.

    • Skill in demonstrating integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in performing assigned tasks.
    • Skill in the operation of office equipment and the ability to accurately enter dictated or written information into a computer at a typing speed of 45wpm with 90% accuracy.
    • Skill in being detail-oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate effective time management.
    • Skill in exercising resourcefulness in addressing problems.
    • Skill in the use of computers (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and the ability to learn new programs.
    • Ability to train administrative staff.
    • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and deal with diverse personalities.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and to prioritize and delegate work effectively.
    • Ability to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to work effectively with citizens, coworkers, officials, and others through written and verbal communication and integrate the philosophy of Community Policing into all contacts.
    • Ability to exercise discretion in stressful or emergency situations.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with Town employees, citizens, and external agencies.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and with general direction.
    • Ability to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and in response to emergencies when needed.
    • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background including but not limited to criminal history search, various verifications, polygraph, etc.
    Additional Information

    Work hours are typically Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. Nights, weekends and holidays may be required.

    Full salary range: $32.23/hr - $46.73/hr

Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision. The employee must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood.

    EnvironmentWork is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The noise level in this environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Coverage will begin the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
