    This position will serve as a Maintenance/Construction Project Manager I for the Support Services/Central Engineering section of North Carolina Department of Adult Correction located in Raleigh, NC.

    The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking an energized and collaborative oriented Project Manager to be a part of the Central Engineering team and provide the oversight and delivery of challenging, yet rewarding, projects.


    As the successful candidate, you will be an integral part of rewarding work in engineering and construction planning, consultation, inspection, design, and construction contract administration service.

    A wide spectrum of work is available, including repair and renovation projects and new construction projects.

    The Project Manager manages the design and construction process with strong emphasis on maintaining the respective projects' scope, budget, and schedule.


    The Project Manager ensures the integration of operating procedures, security requirements and appropriate building systems in the design and construction process to achieve a fully functional facility that satisfies the project program requirements.

    The employee in this position is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently.

    If selected, ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed during the interview. Ability to climb ladders for roof inspections, access crawl spaces and utilize step ladders.

    This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

    About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC)


    The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.

    This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


    The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.

    To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:


    • Demonstrated experience in construction project management for buildings/facilities (vertical) construction, including cost estimating and resolving contract disputes, reviewing buildings/facilities (vertical) construction designs, reading/interpreting plans, and specifications.
    • Demonstrated experience with reviewing, evaluating, inspecting the work of others.
    • Proven experience with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

    Management Preferences:

    • Five years of Engineering, and/or Project Management experience for Clients/Owners regarding Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and/or Construction Management for buildings/facilities (vertical) construction.
    • Prior experience with State Construction Office Procedures and Guidelines and experience managing Correctional Construction projects preferred, but not a requirement.
    • Prior experience as or for General Contractor managing buildings/facilities (vertical) construction projects.
    • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina, but consideration will be given to candidates who do not hold a PE in NC with sufficient Project Management experience.

    Bachelor's degree in Facilities or Construction Management or related Engineering field from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of related experience in construction project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Necessary Special Qualification:
    May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
