Description
Responsible for performing traditional Dosimetrist duties relating to the treatment and education of patients; utilize a knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, as well as common brachytherapy procedures, to assist with treatment planning procedures, including generating radiation dose distributions, and determining dose calculations in collaboration with supervising medical physicist and radiation oncologist; understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive computerized treatment plans, and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval, and to the Radiation Therapist for plan implementation; collaborate with management to design a treatment plan by means of computer and manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance the prescription to a defined tumor volume; consider dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription; coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including CT, MRI, and PET when indicated, for radiation oncology treatment planning; perform and assist in the planning of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices; perform and assist in the planning of the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices; utilize and apply knowledge of nuclear radiation commission regulations, radiation oncology treatment protocols, medical dosimetry procedures, imaging devices, clinical oncology, nuclear radiation/medical physics computerized treatment plans, radiation interaction, human anatomy, radiation safety guidelines, stereotactic body radiotherapy treatment planning, high dose rate brachytherapy GYN treatment planning, brachytherapy seed implants/ultrasound, production of custom shielding for electrons, production of photon beam modifiers, computerized treatment plans documentation, and CT simulation immobilization devices to perform assigned duties; provide support in the implementation of the treatment plan including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables; perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose; document all pertinent information in the patient record, and verify the mathematical accuracy of all calculations using a system established by the Medical Physicist; provide physics and technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment; perform and assist in the application of specific methods of dosimetry including ion chamber, TLD, and film measurement as directed by the Medical Physicist; apply knowledge of radiation safety procedures, and the rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, to perform duties; document treatment plans to record and verification system and patient charts; interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols; apply mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus, as well as visualizing objects in three-dimensional concepts, to facilitate the treatment planning process; participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new dosimetry techniques; and participate in continuing education in the area of current treatment planning techniques and advancements in medical dosimetry.

Education:
Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences, Health Science, Radiation Oncology, or in a related field of study (will accept equivalent foreign degree);
Training:
None
Experience:
Two (2) years in the position above, as a Dosimetrist, as a Medical Physicist, as a Certified Dosimetrist, or in a related occupation;
Other Requirements:
Experience must include two (2) years use of all the following: nuclear radiation/medical physics computerized treatment plans, radiation interaction, human anatomy, radiation safety guidelines, stereotactic body radiotherapy treatment planning, high dose rate brachytherapy GYN treatment planning, brachytherapy seed implants/ultrasound, production of custom shielding for electrons, production of photon beam modifiers, computerized treatment plans documentation, and CT simulation immobilization devices; must possess valid Medical Dosimetrist Board Certification.
