    Mid Level Substation Physical Design Engineer

    Job Summary

    POWER Engineers, Inc. is currently seeking a mid level Electrical Engineer with experience in substation physical design to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Birmingham, Alabama office. This is an in-office position but flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.
    • Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, general arrangements, elevations, AC service calculations, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, ground grid layouts and details.
    • The successful candidate shall be able to specify and select substation equipment; contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling.
    • Occasional travel will be required.

    Required Education/Experience

    • Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Physical Design Engineer in the Birmingham, Alabama location of our Substation Business Unit.
    • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) degree, from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
    • Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
    • Experience in managing small project teams.
    • Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
    • Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.
    • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

    Desired Education/Experience

    • Experience in 230kV through 500kV substation design.
    • Professional Engineering license (PE).
