    Tallahassee Community College's (TCC) Information Technology (IT) department is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong technical and people skills that wants to grow in the field of Network administration. We are looking for a candidate that is interested in a wide range of network opportunities to include switching, wireless, firewalls, and security.

    MAJOR FUNCTION: The Network Technician position is a member of the Information Technology division and reports to the Network Administrator position. This position is responsible for maintaining and expanding the college's IT network infrastructure. This position may be eligible for remote work.

    Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
    • Configure and maintain the college's internal data network using best practices and industry standards for both wired and wireless infrastructure.
    • Evaluate, recommend, and manage network security tools, e.g., firewall, intrusion prevention systems, and filtering systems.
    • Identify, troubleshoot, solve, and document network connectivity and performance issues.
    • Evaluate, install, configure, and maintain the network and hardware, for example, Cisco routers and switches.
    • Work with other areas of Information Technology to deploy, configure and upgrade network software, such as, enterprise antivirus or diagnostics programs.
    • Define network policies, procedures, and maintain proper documentation of network design and cabling infrastructure.
    MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma and seven (7) years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience. An associate's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience. A bachelor's degree is preferred and may substitute for four years of experience. Preference given to candidates who hold network certificates such as; CompTIA's Network +, Cisco CCENT, and Cisco CCNA.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and ability to analyze design and implement infrastructure solutions for all network communications needs. Knowledge to analyze and problem solve networked workstations, software applications and server hardware. Knowledge to troubleshoot application software and network hardware, including LAN connectivity. Knowledge to analyze and problem solve connectivity issues with networked devices (workstations, servers, printers, IP cameras, software applications, etc.). Knowledge to use personal computer and application software including, but not limited to Windows, Office Suite. Ability to work with customers of varying technical expertise. Ability to work with peers of varying technical expertise. Ability to use computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Ability to work with basic hand tools for extended periods. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to safely lift a reasonable weight found in networking devices. Ability to work with Vendors. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to think analytically. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with users and all Information Systems staff. Ability to share information with peers. Ability to work productively and cooperatively on projects, fully participate in appropriate meetings, and carry out assigned needs. Ability to work independently with minimum guidance and be a self-starter. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to make independent judgments and decisions. Ability to follow-up on user requests until a user-accepted solution is obtained. Show initiative in mastering new tasks, demonstrating resourcefulness and creativity. Demonstrate good attendance including punctuality, minimum absences and time well spent at work. Skilled in sharing information with peers.
