Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, with wide latitude for independent action/decisions, manages and performs complex and highly responsible technical and financial functions relating to workers' compensation claims
Typical tasks include:
Manages the preparation and presentation of claims for various quality control programs and conducts performance audits. Manages the processing of stipulated Workers' Compensation Board award/decisions.
Provides supervision over for all claims management actions of assigned claims personnel, including EDI claims-related processing requirements imposed by the Workers' Compensation Board.
Manages complex cases involving multiple injuries/overlapping claims to determine requirements for medical specialty examinations, surveillance/investigation, and lien and subrogation filings.
Handles a caseload when necessary and performs all attendant claims management functions.Serves as the in-house expert on quality assurance initiatives and technical matters, including the claims handling system and EDI requirements.
Responsible for staff development, training, and performance assessment evaluations. Manages special projects as assigned by Senior Management. Prepares for and attends STEP II hearings and Arbitrations.Knowledge of New York State Workers' Compensation Statute and applicable regulations.
Knowledge of MTA-New York City Transit policies and contracts related to Workers' Compensation.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
Strong managerial skills to effectively direct staff.
Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.
Skilled in computational analysis.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplement by 6 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and five (5) years of full-time experience implementing the provision of workers' compensation or medical benefit plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations;
