    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Cardiac / Unit Secretary reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager and functions as a Receptionist as well as performs a variety of clerical support and other duties to assist the nursing staff in carrying out daily patient care activities.

    Responsible for monitoring cardiac monitoring systems. Prepares and maintains patient medical records.# Transcribes and expedites physician orders.

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    This position requires a minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.## Will be required to pass the ECHN arrhythmia course or challenge exam during the new employee introductory orientation period.

    COMPETENCIES:

    Must have previous knowledge of medical terminology and be able to read and communicate effectively using the English language.# Basic windows based software program computer familiarity is required utilizing primarily Meditech for entering orders.

    7.##### Performs other duties as assigned, to promote efficient functioning of the unit. 8.##### Answers telephone/intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family. 9.##### Orders supplies, processes work orders, enters charges and performs other coordinating activities to maintain unit operations. 10.# Demonstrates competency in interpreting dysrhythmias. 11.# Runs and posts rhythm strips at the specified times. 12.# Communicates information about dysrhythmias to the appropriate nurse in a timely fashion. 13.# Maintains logs pertaining to telemetry.
