    Description
    :

    Perform the duties of Electric Induction Furnace Operator C (Job Code 233), Line and repair furnace and ladles used in pour off operation.

    Prepare and transport proper charges to furnace. Charge and operate furnaces checking capacitor settings and furnace temperature, making necessary adjustments to power panel. Record metal input and make out daily heat record sheets. Accurately maintain and record daily information such as metal input, tap and ladle temperatures, power usage, and re-factory life.

    Add metal adjustments, deoxidizers, and skim as necessary prior to pouring into ladles using care not to splash materials or overload ladles.

    Melt a variety of metals; tap ladles in safe manner. Prepare and test specimens for chemical analysis.

    Become familiar with all controls for AOD process, computer, vessels, pre-heater, inert gases, slagging and transporting of metal to vessel then to molds.

    Housekeeping and PPE clothing are required for working in this department.

    And No Bake Pour-off B (Job Code 215) Perform duties such as preparing molds for pour by use of weights or clamps independently or with some supervision.

    Apply hot top to poured molds according to procedure, light off gas as mold is poured. Pour off and prepare molds for shake out by unclamping or removing weights and breaking off runner boxes.

    Transport materials as needed and transport molds for pour and after pour to prescribed area by use of pendant crane, lift truck, or other powered equipment.

    Operate transfer car and overhead crane during pouring operation. Transfer metal from induction furnaces to AOD vessel then back again to pouring floor. De-slag ladles and AOD vessel. Transfer slag pot from AOD vessel and position new pot under vessel for slagging off. Must wear protective clothing as prescribed for this department. Maintain clean and orderly work area. Perform other miscellaneous duties. Particular attention must be made to safety consciousness.

    Requirements:

    COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT:


    Work is generally semi-routine requiring judgment in the application of established principles in adjusting furnace controls and analysis of furnace by visual observation as well as readings.

    Able to identify raw material and color-codes. Exposure to AOD and all controls required for next level. Routine or repetitive work following clearly prescribed standard practice in performing the Melt Deck operation. Decisions require assistance from supervisor or associates.


    EDUCATION:
    Working knowledge of electrical, water-cooling hydraulic systems. Basic computer skills, i.e., mouse, keyboard, and screen navigation for AOD refining system.
    High school / GED, comparable foundry experience, Some computer skills necessary or trainable in a computer environment.

    INITIATIVE:
    Frequent check and guidance under close supervision. All questions that do not fall within standard practice are referred to supervisor. Some degree of initiative is necessary to work as a team to properly pour off. Follow established practice and clear-cut policy in performing majority of duties. Initiative necessary to successfully perform functional responsibilities. Make decisions when general instructions and established methods indicate action to be taken, but refer unusual problems to supervision.


    ERRORS:
    Errors detected may affect the work of others including burn hazard. Errors could cause damage to expensive equipment or products and cause production delays or safety hazards.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND:
    Moderately heavy job in changing weights, moving molds, and working with hot metal.

    Considerable physical effort required in the charging of metal to furnaces and AOD vessel and the removal of slag from furnaces/AOD vessels.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Continuous exposure to extreme heat, fumes, smoke and burn hazard.
