    What Your Job Will Be Like

    We are currently seeking a Quality Engineer at the Distinguished level to join the team in delivering on and continually improving our mission of Enterprise Excellence and intentional quality assurance.

    The selected candidate will perform and lead a wide range of projects and initiatives.

    This individual will apply technical judgment in determining optimal application of engineering, management, and technical practices in the design, development, deployment, and execution of innovative quality related systems in order to ensure work is consistently and predictably conducted throughout the laboratories.

    On any given day, one may be called upon to:
    Provide expertise, judgement and mentoring on technical quality concepts and their application in an R&D setting based on knowledge of all of Sandia's programs (5 portfolios, LDRD, 30 programs) and work processes, including making recommendations appropriate for nature of work and scientific/engineering objectives
    Lead efforts and provide consultation within and outside the center related to governance, enterprise risk management, risk assessment, management system design, and quality/assurance requirements
    Lead the risk assessment of Lab's quality risk profile in coordination with the enterprise risk management subject matter expert to determine areas to assess, perform research and maintain situational Labs wide awareness
    Develop solutions, provide position documentation, develop new principles, concepts, and practices, influence policy, and provide analysis and consultation across the Laboratory
    Lead cross-functional teams to facilitate and drive integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions to complex operational or compliance issues
    Establish, monitor, and mature key aspects of the laboratory's enterprise risk management program efforts, such as developing and coordinating the overall risk management framework and risk assessment for Sandia
    Advise executive, division, and labs-level leadership on requirements interpretation, risk and compliance impacts, operational risks of lab leadership decisions

    Serve as liaison for External/DOE Relationships with a leadership role in EFCOG; coordinate cross site coordination info sharing; technical exchanges, and identification of efficiencies with other sites related to Policy/Process/Software Tools.

    Partner with other assessment organizations across Sandia to develop integrated, efficient, multi-system assessment plans which address the Labs' greatest risks and drive continual improvement.

    Perform complex multi-variable data analysis to identify trends and systemic issues related to the Labs' QMS.

    Advise Sandians on interpretation, application, and integration of quality assurance requirements including DOE O 414, DOE O 226, and ISO 9001.

    Coordinate quality-related communications, data calls, investigations, audits, and other requests with NNSA, the Sandia Field Office (SFO), and executive management
    Use various means to engage with stakeholders to set shared expectations, serve as a communication conduit, solve problems, and provide assurance information
    Communicate effectively and influentially to leadership and stakeholders using presentations, written analyses, concise reporting, and visualizations
    Mentor co-workers by sharing ideas, teaming to achieve results, and providing training to new and existing colleagues

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 75% of the time.

    Qualifications We Require


    Bachelor's STEM degree plus twelve or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

    The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
    Qualifications We Desire

    At least 5 years proven leadership, demonstrating the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, manage stakeholders, and build and lead diverse teams
    Comprehensive and current knowledge of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) principles, DOE O 226.1B, NNSA SD 226.1C, DOE 414.1D, ISO 9001 and applicable quality assurance requirements
    Working knowledge of Sandia's mission, structure, and context as an FFRDC within the Nuclear Security Enterprise
    Experience implementing quality management systems
    Ability to solve complex problems in the absence of clear direction and initial understanding and satisfy U.S. Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories quality related requirements and expectations.
    A demonstrated ability to initiate and complete work independently and in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff
    Superb communication, collaboration, and people skills, with experience in adapting messaging and presenting influential messages to program partners, senior executives, federal oversight officials, and the NSE
    Strong analytical, critical, and strategic thinking skills to drive creative solutions
    The ability to anticipate, prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects within appropriate scope and timeframe in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments

    About Our Team
    Organization 10121 is the Labs' Enterprise Assessment team.

    Our mission is to enable Sandia to conduct value-added, risk-based self-assessments, to perform risk-based internal and critical supplier assessments, and facilitate external QMS audits to drive valuable improvements, giving Sandia's Leadership and the members of the workforce confidence that risks are identified and managed, and requirements are met.

    Posting Duration

    Security Clearance

    Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
