    GENERAL SUMMARY :

    The Transportation Specialist compiles records concerned with ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, and shipping materials, supplies, and equipment by performing the following duties. Maintains day-to-day operations within the shipping office.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manage and coordinate all Savage Sales including obsolete film sales.

    Generates "pick lists" from the computer terminal and compiles the information against a shipment schedule. Accesses the option menu daily and provides all pick lists for the following day's shipments (includes distribution center, customer and inter-company shipments).

    Uses the computer terminal to verify pick lists and creates a shipment manifest.

    Acts as a liaison between the Company and common contract carriers; arranges for pick-ups, trailer drops, and minor load scheduling. Communicates specific load requirements to carriers.

    Prepares memos and other communications to relevant departments as directed. Logs pertinent shift information for inter-shift communication.

    Maintains filing system in a neat and orderly manner.

    Create, prepares and maintain spreadsheets and databases to track departmental scorecards, salvage, and other projects as needed.

    Problem solves billing disputes, inventories and other shipment issues for internal and external warehouse(s) including problems with carrier shipments with billing or inventory discrepancies.

    Provide Customer Service to internal and external customers/carriers.

    Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.

    Practices and adheres to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines and procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection; keeps work area clean; properly stores supplies in designated area; demonstrates the ability to operate office machinery, computer equipment, and printers in a safe and knowledgeable manner; follows instructions for safe lifting and carrying of various sizes, shapes and weights of objects; identifies and reports defective equipment to supervision; reports all job-related injuries to supervision.

    Mandatory overtime may be required

    Performs other job-related projects, duties and assignments as directed.

    Reads and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    Writes routine reports and correspondence.

    Speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

    Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Computes rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Applies common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    Deals with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Education and Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); along with 1 year minimum related experience and/or training.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The noise level in the work environment is quiet in the office areas but loud and hearing protection is required in the plant. While performing some of the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat or cold. May be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold depending upon the weather conditions when working on the docks or driving a vehicle. Weekend and/or overtime hours may be required.
