    Description

    GSK is looking for a dynamic Scientific Director to join their DMPK modeling group. As an individual contributor, the scientific director will have the opportunity to lead the development and implementation of MIDD (QSP, PKPD and PBPK) strategies within the DMPK modeling group. Along with other DMPK team members, they will collaborate across various cross-functional teams including biology, chemistry, clinical pharmacology, toxicology and formulations, contributing to the prediction of human efficacious dose across lead optimization and candidate nomination and contribute to internal dossiers & regulatory responses for small/large molecules and novel modalities.

    Responsibilities:

  • Work with global DMPK Leadership Team, wider modelling group and data sciences to deliver harmonised, cutting-edge modeling strategies, driving efficiency through software selection, App development and visualisations.
  • Support DMPK project representatives to identify and apply optimal modeling strategies and tools to support projects across discovery phases.
  • Independently build, validate, and apply models to support mechanistic understanding of absorption and systemic exposure potential for new chemical entities, biologics and new modalities.
  • Drive model informed drug discovery (MIDD) by providing valuable input into various DMPK assays, PKPD study design and clinical study protocols based on modeling outputs or requirements.
  • Utilise insights from relevant clinical data, through the application of modelling expertise to help direct preclinical drug discovery.
  • Provide valuable training and mentoring to support the development of existing and new staff together with the education of business partners.
  • Present modeling strategies and outputs in internal department meetings as well as external /international conferences.
  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline (Maths, pharmacology, biochemistry or other DMPK related science)
  • 5+ years' work experience in related field or area of science
  • Experience in developing & implementing MIDD strategies across drug discovery and development phases.
  • Experience working with physicochemical properties and how it relates to drug disposition.
  • Experience in approaches and capabilities to conduct human PK and efficacious dose prediction.
  • Experience with DMPK scientific applications across drug discovery and development, including translational understanding of PK and PKPD.
  • Experience with peer-reviewed publication, public speaking / presentation
  • Track record of consortia engagement (e.g., IQ, ISSX, Acop)
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong influencing skills across multiple formats including face to face and virtual project team environments.
  • The ability to work independently with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional small and large molecule drug discovery teams.
