The starting salary will be commensurate with level of education and work experience in the engineering and transportation industry. The salary range for Level III (Senior Airport Engineer) will be $83,600 - $101,000. The salary range for Level II (Airport Engineer) will be $77,900 - $92,500. The salary range for Level I (Entry Level Engineer) will be $52,000 – 72,500.
Job Description
BASIC PURPOSE :
This position is within the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics' Airport Division.
The Department is searching for an Airport Engineer and is open to a wide range of experience levels from entry level to an experienced career engineer.
Depending upon the selected candidate their experience level will dictate the responsibilities of the position as shown below.Regardless of experience level, this position's overall goal will be supporting and executing the Division's engineering and construction program activities, providing engineering expertise, guidance, and technical assistance to public airport sponsors, supporting the Division's efforts to invest in public airport infrastructure across the state, and working with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure a safe, efficient air transportation system.
This position will allow partial tele-work and require travel both in-state and out of state.TYPICAL FUNCTIONS (Airport Engineer) :
Works with existing engineering staff of the Division to ensure work is accomplished consistent with agency and industry requirements.
Supports, develops, and reviews preliminary engineering reports as a part of the Division's PER program.
Develops planning cost estimates for construction projects that may be included in the Department's Airport Construction Program.
Reviews capital infrastructure projects from preliminary design through construction and closeout.
Supports the Department's in-house airport pavement management program including participating in pavement condition inspections, conducting analysis of data, and writing pavement inspection reports.
Conducts periodic site inspections during construction and reviews pay requests.
May attend and provide input at pre-bid, pre-construction, and construction progress meetings conducted by engineering consultants.
Provides construction oversight for projects using Federal/State funds and maintains project status reports for all active state funded projects; works closely with Grants Administrator from project start to finish.
Provides technical assistance to airports regarding design, construction, improvement, and maintenance of Oklahoma's commercial and general aviation airports as well as supporting the development of their Capital Improvement Programs.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Ability to write technical engineering reports.
Familiarity with pavement design, pavement inspections, AutoCAD and Arc GIS.
Basic knowledge of airport operations and construction management on an airport.
Excellent computer skills are required for the position.
The selected candidate will have excellent working knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Office and be well versed in WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Level III (Senior Airport Engineer)
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
Currently registered as a Professional Engineer with the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is required.
At least 7 years of prior civil engineering and design experience.At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a professional engineering field.
Preferred 4 years of engineering experience within the airport engineering field.
Level II (Airport Engineer)
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
Currently registered as a Professional Engineer with the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or the ability to become registered within 1 year of employment is required.
At least 3 years of prior civil engineering and design experience.Level I (Entry Level Engineer)
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
Currently registered as an Engineer Intern with the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or the ability to become registered within 1 year of employment is preferred.
SALARY

CADD Specialist Alternative
As an alternative to the engineering requirements, the Department may consider applicants that specialize in design and CADD activities. Below you will find details as it relates to the requirements for this alternative.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS (Designer/CADD) :
Works with existing engineering staff of the Division to ensure work is accomplished consistent with agency and industry requirements.
Supports engineering and administrative staff in the development of exhibits, drawings, PowerPoint presentations, and Arc GIS input/management.
Performs pavement inspections with engineering staff and inputs data into PAVER program.
Provides quantity calculations from plans for cost estimates.
Provides computer aided drafting for in-house design and production of construction bid documents, i.e., plans, specifications and estimates for bidding and construction.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Basic engineering principles and design techniques.
Ability to perform CADD work using engineering principles, techniques, computer programs to express ideas clearly and concisely.
Excellent computer skills are required for the position.
The selected candidate will have excellent working knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Office and be well versed in WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
CADD related degree and/or certification in CADD from vocational/technical school or equivalent combination of experience substituting three (3) years' experience for a
degree/certification.
Minimum two (2) years prior experience with CADD design and drafting for a civil engineering firm.
SALARY
The starting salary will be commensurate with level of education and work experience in the transportation industry. The salary range for the CADD Specialist will be $40,200 - $72,600
