    Job Title: Controls Engineer


    Pay:     $30-$55/hour based on experience

    Overview: A growing integrated tooling and automation company in Grand Rapids is seeking a Controls Engineer to join its team. In this role you'll play a crucial role in the development and implementation of control systems for various automation equipment. Your primary responsibilities will include programming PLC's (programmable logic controllers), conducting machine startup, and debugging. You will be at the forefront of control system design, collaborating with internal teams and interfacing directly with customers to ensure smooth machine operation and optimal performance.

    Controls Engineer Responsibilities:

    • Assume responsibility for the entire lifecycle of control system projects, from design to machine runoff.
    • Determine power requirements for automation equipment electrical control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
    • Design robust electrical control systems, incorporating components such as conductor's, relay's, PLC's, HMI's, and interface circuitry to meet functional requirements and performance objectives.
    • Proactively troubleshoot daily production problems, diagnosing issues with control systems and implementing timely solutions to minimize downtime.
    • Collaborate effectively with external vendors, fostering productive working relationships to achieve project milestones and objectives.

    Controls Engineer Qualifications:

    • Associate degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field.
    • Strong background and hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation systems.
    • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations governing control system design and implementation.
    • Prior experience in machine startup, commissioning, and debugging within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
    • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design and schematic layout.
    • Proficient problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop innovative solutions to meet project requirements.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, customers, and external vendors.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments concurrently, prioritizing workload effectively to meet deadlines and deliverables.
    • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision, while also thriving in a team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time on an as needed basis.
