Summary
The School of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University welcomes applications for a full-time (12-month) Assistant Professor of Surgery. All full-time faculty members employed by BUSPM are expected to engage in activities that are considered core to their primary role as a faculty member. These activities include teaching, scholarly activity, and service.

Barry University is a non-tenure institution. Administrative appointments are made using a 12-month, continuing contract subject to satisfactory annual review and a summative review after completion of a six-year term.

The DPM program has a maximum enrollment of 268 graduate students and is supported by 15 full-time faculty and five staff. BUSPM's distinctive approach to education and clinical care emphasizes interdisciplinary and interprofessional learning and practice directed toward solving complex problems. Student outcomes, including first time pass rates for licensure exams and residency placement, are outstanding, and there is extraordinary demand for the college's graduates.

Essential Functions
Develop, instruct, and employ multiple teaching modalities in the delivery of the Podiatric Surgery curriculum in both classroom and clinical settings, aligning with the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) accreditation standards and the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM) Curriculum Guide, to meet student learning objectives.

Provide summative and formative assessment of podiatric medical student performance. Administer, proctor, and grade assessments utilizing ExamSoftTM, reporting grades in the Canvas Learning Management System

Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students within the DPM program, providing individualized support and feedback.

Serve on established Barry University and School-specific committees and attend professional meetings related to job function. Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that are consistent with the overall Mission Statement of the University and the School of Podiatric Medicine, and that comply with accreditation standards and other regulatory agencies. Participate in strategic planning and accreditation activities, as needed.

Participate in scholarly activity processes directly or in a supportive role which may include but is not limited to pre-clinical science research, clinical research, medical education scholarly activity, and/or scholarly activity regarding process, policy and procedure improvement/enhancement. The extent of scholarly activity will be determined on an individual basis per faculty workload model. Scholarly activity should be conducted in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Department of Grants and Sponsored Programs, and Federal and State statutes.

Diagnose and treat a variety of foot and ankle conditions, providing comprehensive podiatric care to patients of all ages at a designated Barry University Foot and Ankle Institute.

Maintain/obtain the necessary active and unrestricted podiatric medical license, board qualification/certification by ABFAS or ABPM, and controlled substance licenses necessary for supporting and participating in clinical care related to the educational activities of the School and to the Barry University Foot and Ankle Institute.

Participate in teaching activities within the clinic, providing guidance to medical students and/or Residents. Integrate educational objectives into clinical practice, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and curricular guidelines.

Qualifications/Requirements
Doctoral degree in Podiatric Medicine (DPM)

Must have the ability to engage with students in classroom and clinical andragogy

Must be able to operate a desktop computer and be proficient in the MS Office Suite.

Experience in using learning management systems, e.g., Canvas or Blackboard.

Familiarity with online examination systems, e.g., ExamSoft, a plus.

Excellent communication skills for preparing notes and documents related to courses and other committee-related documents.
