    Summary:

    The skilled Nurse, working independently, is mindful of all relevant aspects of a situation in a clinical setting. Offers routine and complex care, focusing on long-term goals or plans. Enhances ability to handle clinical nursing contingencies. Assigns tasks appropriately and delegates to other caregivers to help manage the clinical scenario.


    About the Job Title and Company:

    Join CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH), a 150-bed facility catering to the rapidly expanding San Antonio area. You'll be part of a team providing specialized care including orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women's services, cardiovascular care, and more.


    Responsibilities:

    • Meet requirements of relevant OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
    • Following ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, offer nursing care using the nursing process for assigned patients.
    • Address intricate psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families based on practice level.
    • Administer medications and treatments using proper protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness.
    • Record patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
    • Assess educational needs and educate patients, families, or caregivers; recognize issues and available resources.

    Standard II. Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process

    • Plan for admission/discharge/transfer needs to streamline patient flow
    • Utilize communication systems and tools for discharge process facilitation
    • Coach on methods for order checking and validation for accuracy


    Standard III. Unit Operations

    • Plan, oversee, and evaluate nursing care and functions in a designated nursing unit during shifts
    • Demonstrate responsible equipment and supplies use and maintenance
    • Assess staffing needs; participate in sourcing efforts
    • Educate on industry operations, ethics, and regulations


    Standard IV. Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations

    • Utilize patient safety practices for a safe environment and positive outcomes
    • Take accountability for nursing research and quality improvement efforts
    • Provide evidence-based nursing care
    • Effectively communicate patient information within care continuum
    • Educate on industry regulations and ethics
    • Comply with healthcare laws and regulations


    TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES


    Clinical Policies and Standards

    • Adhere to specific clinical standards and procedures
    • Analyze and ensure compliance with policy and standards documentation
    • Provide feedback for procedure enhancement
    • Aid in developing and implementing specific procedures
    • Work with control, monitoring mechanisms, tools, and techniques

    Health Information Documentation

    • Share experiences in maintaining patient documentation
    • Outline steps for receiving, validating, and updating patient records
    • Describe information flow between stations/units
    • Discuss features and flow of electronic documentation
    • Transcribe verbal orders; validate order accuracy techniques
    • Explain documentation best practices across healthcare


    Requirements:

    Hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing
    Prefer one year of nursing experience, new graduates accepted
    Current Texas State RN License or Compact RN License
    BLS (American Heart Association)
    ACLS required for experienced RNs; new graduates must obtain ACLS by the end of clinical orientation
    PALS required for experienced RNs; new graduates must obtain PALS by the end of clinical orientation
    Crisis intervention training within 12 months of hire/transfer
    For trauma facilities, TNCC required within 6 weeks for experienced RNs; new graduates within 18 months of hire/transfer
