    POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITY

The Commissioning (Cx) Engineer plays a key role in supporting successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. Reporting to the Commissioning Project Manager, this individual will support KFI's commissioning team by supporting the development of projects, executing field activities, and supporting the development of reports. This role will also support our west coast ventilation program. Specifically, the work includes onsite assessment of HVAC system operations, performing TAB measurements and completing required documentation.

We are a NEBB certified firm and provide a career path for individual employees to obtain NEBB certification and advance their careers. We financially sponsor candidates for certification, and we provide all necessary equipment, training, and ongoing support for our staff. We have offices located throughout the United States but offer remote work environments. This position allows the opportunity to travel the USA, working on a team of individuals to improve building environments.

The successful candidate will have a pragmatic and applied approach, enjoy working in the field, and effectively interact directly with customers and contractors. They will have a strong attention to detail and will possess effective communication and influencing skills. This person will also be self-directed, but thrive in an environment where consultation and collaboration lead to superior outcomes.

In an ideal world, the person filling this opening will have experience doing this type of work, an engineering or technology degree or related HVAC technical degree, working knowledge of HVAC systems fundamentals, and HVAC system test & balance procedures. However, KFI is prepared to hire the right individual, who may be less experienced and does not have these preferred credentials – provided they have the other necessary qualifications. In other words, KFI is prepared to invest in the development of the right candidate through internal training and self-driven additional training courses.

Specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

    • Assess, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues related to HVAC systems, including airflow, temperature, and pressure imbalances.
    • Perform technical analysis of equipment to identify deficient operations and opportunities for improved performance and energy efficiency.
    • Provide technical write-ups to capture field findings on their own projects or in support of other PMs.
    • Participate in construction and/or commissioning meetings and document representative notes on action items and responsibilities.
    • Trains less tenured staff in areas of expertise
