    Roles and Responsibilities:

    As a Software Engineer at MITRE, you will enjoy a collaborative environment where you work closely with othersin an organization that encourages and values collaboration, mentoring, and continuous learning. You will have the opportunity to leverage and grow your hands-on software engineering expertise as you contribute to real challenges across a variety of domains. As part of the Distributed Computing department, you will develop your software architecture and engineering skills while delivering computing capabilities wherever they are best suited to address the challenges of our sponsors.

    While responding to thesechallenges,youwillleverage and growyourhands-on skills with software design and development, engaging in the full software engineering lifecycle using modern technologies.

    Youwillgain experience with one or more of the following:

    • Cloud Engineering
    • DevSecOps
    • Full-Stack Development
    • Embedded Systems and Internet of Things
    • Practical Applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)
    • Must be a US citizen able to obtain and maintain a US government clearance.
    • Hands-on skills in at least one object-oriented, procedural, functional, or declarative programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, C/C++/C#, Python, Linux, Bash).
    • Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and practices (desirable also includes exposure to Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Infrastructure-as-Code, Automation for Security and Testing, etc.).
    • Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
    • High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges.
    • Exposure to software development tools and frameworks, including source control management tools (e.g., Git).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Preference given to candidates who have completed an advanced degree in a technical discipline (including but not limited to Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, etc.)
    • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
    • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
    • Familiarity with Cloud Services Providers (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.).
    • Knowledge of software design patterns.
    • Knowledge of database technologies, including relational or NoSQL.
    • Knowledge of Generative Pretrained and Large Language Models and use in the Software Development Lifecycle.
