We are seeking a Gas Lab Technician to join our team at our Millersburg, Oregon facility. You will report to the Analytical laboratory Sr. Leader and work in conjunction with other laboratory leaders to facilitate various lab needs.

This is a swing shift position, typically working Tuesday-Saturday from 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, but will require Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm during the initial training period.

This position is primarily responsible for performing analytical testing and testing-related support activities in the Gas Lab and perform tasks in the Sample Receiving area where incoming samples are processed to prepare them for testing.

To be successful, you will have to quickly grasp ATI's processes, work collaboratively with multiple functional areas in the labs, have a flexible and engaging personality and communicate effectively with both operators in the lab as well as samplers from outside the lab.

Attention to detail, a continuous improvement mindset, the ability to act quickly and make decisions on the fly, and exceptional interpersonal skills are included in the skillset of a successful Gas Lab Technician.

Primary Responsibilities

• Preparing and testing samples per written test procedures
• Adhering to documented standards to complete tasks and working with team to create or improve documented standards where appropriate
• Using technical skills and background to identify problems and implement effective solutions
• Prioritizing work according to established procedures
• Maintaining, calibrating, and operating various laboratory instruments (predominantly LECO instrumentation)
• Preparing solid samples via largely manual mechanical means (hand shearing, hand filing)
• Performing related tasks that support the accomplishment of the primary testing tasks
• Prioritizing incoming work according to established procedures
• Facilitating the flow of incoming samples through Sample Receiving and to subsequent testing
• Operating milling machine, manual shears, and other equipment to process samples to the appropriate size, shape, and mass for downstream testing
• Implementing good lab practices to ensure samples meet quality requirements

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associate's Degree (in a physical science preferred)
• In lieu of an Associate's Degree, at least 2 years laboratory or quality experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to think creatively and strategically
• Ability to work with cross-functional groups as a team member and occasional team leader
• Ability to work self-directed within established parameters with minimal supervision
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work while standing for several hours at a time
• Prior experience with LECO instruments is a plus
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles preferred
• Prior experience in a Quality role or in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams) preferred
