    A Brief Overview
    Manages and coordinates laboratory activities across all ambulatory practice sites to ensure test procedures, services and clinical information are in compliance with organizational, federal, state and all regulatory agencies standards / requirements, to provide accurate and timely test results. Works collaboratively with the staff in coordination & management of patient care to integrate laboratory activities & services. Performs variety of general & laboratory specific administrative duties. Manages workflow, quality, laboratory budgets, laboratory projects, conflicts, and organizes & participates in meetings. Assists leadership to develop objectives, policies, procedures and standards of operations to improve work efficiencies and quality.

    What you will do

    • Apprises Director, Laboratory Services of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
    • Maintains awareness of customer needs and implements operations of department to ensure compliance with standards and requirements as it relates to laboratory services provided to patients from the neonate to geriatrics.
      •Develops and implements laboratory policies and procedures consistent with regulatory agencies and hospital's mission.
      •Ensures that lab tests and procedures are performed in a timely and cost effective manner and accurate test results are provided to medical/hospital staff and patients.
      •Ensures compliance with applicable policies, standards, medical bylaws and regulatory requirements.
      •Maintains current awareness of federal and state regulatory requirements.
      •Provides assistance regarding specific laboratory problems and applications of hospital and laboratory policies.
      •Coordinates and integrates Laboratory services with other disciplines to maximize overall effectiveness of the department.
      •Assumes responsibility within assigned service units in the absence of Director.
    • Plans, implements and manages unit activities to ensure efficient operations, quality results, and professional customer service.
      •Manages day-to-day operations/problem solving and implements new or revised programs and/or services.
      •Responsible for ensuring unit work is completed in a manner that is accurate and timely.
      •Ensures required documentation is completed thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
      •Ensures that staff works in collaboration with other disciplines, physician, health care team members, and external healthcare organizations for radiology and imaging needs.
      •Supervises the financial resources of assigned areas of responsibility. Monitors operating revenues and expenses, administers established cost control program, monitors budget variances and reports significant variances to the Director. Oversees equipment maintenance and supply inventory in all sections, focusing on inventory resolution and cost saving measures. Identifies and recommends new and improved business opportunities within the department to increase revenue and meet customer needs.
      •Makes changes and recommendations as needed to enhance/improve services and efficiency in operations.
    • Establishes communication mechanisms to ensure that all laboratory employees and customers have access to laboratory related information. Assists in maintenance of Laboratory Information System.
    • Plans work schedules, assigns work and monitors workflow to provide adequate Lab services at all times through individual or cooperative activities.
      •Effectively makes work assignments, delegates responsibilities, sets priorities and redirects employees to other tasks as the need arises.
      •Audits work of staff to ensure quality in all job duties.
      •Ensures staff meets daily and monthly productivity levels.
    • Confers and works collaboratively with Laboratory/medical/hospital staff in compliance with MEDCARE standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to coordinate and implement activities, to obtain information, answer inquiries and resolve problems regarding Laboratory services.
    • Compiles, prepares and maintains records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
      •Utilizes computer and information systems to enter, format data and generates statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs.
      •Utilizes analytic skills and statistical analysis to aggregate data to assist with the identification of potential problems and patterns, trends, establish priorities and recommend improvement activities.
      •Reports trends in data which reflect system issues, establishes priorities and recommends improvement activities to Director and/or other responsible parties.
    • Supervises, develops and motivates direct reports to ensure that a capable, productive staff exists within Laboratory services.
      •Selects, orients, trains and develops staff to meet requirements set forth in department plan to provide radiology examinations/procedures in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures and bylaws, billing requirements, and other regulatory/legal requirements.
      •Develops staff competencies to meet job requirements.
      •Provides in-services and training opportunities for staff.
      •Supports staff in development and implementation of their individualized professional development plans.
      •Evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as required.
      •Fosters a safe environment for staff to expand in their application of care practices, teamwork skills and accountability for organizational goals.
    • Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organizational policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
    • Assists in the preparation of operating budget and is responsible for adherence to approved budget. Utilizes defined procedures to allocate resources such as FTEs, supplies and inventory. Monitors performance of support staff in the ordering, inventory, cleaning and maintenance of equipment for the department.
      •Participates in maintaining productivity standards as necessitated by staffing, volume, and departmental needs.
      •Evaluates potential equipment purchases to ensure correlation with operational needs and service goals. Communicates with vendors concerning equipment as necessary.
      •Assists with the development of expansion/remodeling plans and elevations to operationally accommodate equipment purchases and system modifications.
    • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements to maintain knowledge of best practices, current trends and developments in Laboratory and patient care services.
      •Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
      •Maintains clinical competence commensurate to areas of responsibility.
      •Attends in-services, educational programs, conferences and other meetings as required.
      •Supports the organization's Performance Improvement initiatives. Participates in activities both unit-based and hospital-wide to maintain or improve quality of patient care. Assists with development and implementation of plan. Completes assigned monitors and adheres to standards of practice. Utilizes quality indicators to improve laboratory practices.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent experience Required and
    • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates Required
    • MLT-Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) State Licensure as Medical Technologist (Lab Supervisor) Upon Hire Required
    • Minimum 3 years experience as a Medical Technologist Required and
    • Minimum 1 year experience supervisory or Lead Technologist experience Required
