    Job Description Job Description About the RoleWe are seeking a passionate and empathetic Economic Empowerment Specialist to join our team.

    The Economic Empowerment Specialist will work closely with survivors of domestic violence, providing one on-one financial counseling and conducting group workshops on a wide range of financial literacy topics.

    The Program Manager will develop internal and external resources to develop a robust Economic Empowerment Program to support survivors of domestic violence in gaining economic security and independence.

    This role is essential in helping survivors regain control over their financial well-being and work toward economic stability.
    About My Sisters PlaceMy Sister's Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence.

    As DC's oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the district's response to this pressing public health issue since 1979.

    MSP is unique in offering a continuum of care from emergency shelter through transitional-to-permanent housing.

    Our experienced team of case managers and residential counselors provide clinical counseling, case management, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive.

    MSP also provides training, case consultation, and advocacy to engage communities to prevent violence and abuse.

    What Youll Be DoingDeveloping an Economic Empowerment Program that serves all MSP clientsManaging and growing MSPs current economic empowerment programs, such as our Fresh Start Fund and RISE Trust Unconditional Cash Transfer ProgramConducting one-on-one financial counseling sessions with survivors, assessing their financial situations, setting goals, and creating personalized financial plansIdentifying client needs and developing tools to measure success in supporting the economic empowerment and self-sustainability of MSP clientsIdentifying and developing partnerships to support program and client needsProviding survivors with referrals for additional financial assistance, legal support, and community resourcesMaintaining accurate and confidential client records and documentationPlanning, organizing, and leading group workshops covering a wide range of financial literacy topics, including; Banking and Loans, Budgeting, Consumer Protection, Debt Management, Financial Health, Investing, Personal Bankruptcy, Personal Finance, Retirement Planning, Taxes, and Understanding CreditAdapting curriculum and teaching methods to address the unique needs and experiences of survivors of domestic violence, fostering a supportive, inclusive, trauma-informed learning environmentCollaborating with fellow team members, such as MSPs Workforce Development Specialist, and external agencies to ensure survivors receive comprehensive supportQualifications3-5 years of experience in financial counseling, financial literacy education or a related fieldIn-depth knowledge of financial literacy topics, including, but not limited to, those listed aboveBachelor's degree in finance, economics, social work, or a related field (master's degree preferred)Self-starter with an exceptional work ethic; ability to work independently with minimal oversightSuperior organizational skills, including meticulous record-keeping and attention to detailExceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and provide compassionate and non-judgmental support to survivorsA mission-driven approach to financial literacy education that is rooted in empathy and sensitivity to the diverse needs and experiences of survivors of domestic violenceWhat We're Looking ForAt MSP, we are committed to our core values, which guide our every action and decision.
