    SUMMARY OF POSITION

    Performs work of moderate to high difficulty involving the administration of the district's Client/Server network and infrastructure including installation repair and maintenance of all district servers, computers, associated peripherals, networks, and other associated equipment and software.

    Provides district-wide project management and implementation, support and assistance resolving complex problems associated with the district's client/server network infrastructure.


    RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows clients/servers and supporting networks.
    Install, configure and maintain the district's remote monitoring and management system
    Manage, monitor and maintain the district-wide client/server network, and support on-site network technicians.
    Configure and maintain district critical business applications including user maintenance, software upgrades and troubleshooting.
    Configure and maintain data backups for the district's client/server network.
    Provide assistance to users in connecting to and using client/server access devices and applications.
    Serve as the system administrator in hardware configuration, system access, system performance evaluation and updating operating systems.
    Install, configure, and maintain the district's anti-virus/anti-malware systems on both the network and workstation level.
    Install, configure, maintain and repair computer hardware, associated components and operating systems.
    Repair and report problems to vendors and follow-up for completion of repairs.
    Test systems continuously to identify problems and modify the system as needed to resolve problems.
    Document daily time and daily work activities in the district's work order system.
    Determine specific needs and make recommendations for acquisition of available hardware/software needs.
    Assist personnel in the use and setup of computer operating systems.
    Keep pace with rapid development of network technology, ensuring consistency with the district's information technology needs.
    Troubleshoot network devices using logical problem solving, and appropriate tools and techniques.
    Consult with district and department technical staff, manufacturers, and software providers to resolve problems.
    Evaluate and recommend network hardware, software, and related tools or materials.

    Develop, document, implement and maintain methods and procedures to ensure proper functionality, security and integrity of district hardware, software, data and network infrastructure function.

    Lead cross-functional team projects and coordinates technical information with external and internal entities.
    Perform other duties as established in the Computer Specialist position.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Thorough knowledge of computer hardware and software systems.

    Principles of computer operations, data base management and basic programming.

    General setup of scanners, printers, I/O devices and related equipment.

    Computer disk operating systems.

    Microsoft Windows Client/Server networks.

    All versions of the Windows desktop operating system.

    High level command of Microsoft Windows Active Directory administration and configuration.

    Plan, organize, analyze, problem solve and troubleshoot computer hardware and identify problems or potential problems.

    Communicate and make sound recommendations and modification.

    Communicate effectively with a wide variety of people in writing and orally.

    Participate in cross-functional project teams.

    Work independently or function as a team member depending on the type of project.

    Keep pace with rapid development of network technology, ensuring consistency with district's technology needs.

    Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to deal with changing technologies and priorities.

    Learn evolving and necessary computer languages as needed by the district.

    Review data for accuracy.

    Work is performed independently in accordance with established procedures under the direction and supervision of the Director of Information Technology, who shall at least annually evaluate the Computer Systems Engineer's performance.

    Light physical activity in normal office environment. Position may require ability to work on weekends including a flexible workday and/or workweek. Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds.

    ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
    Three (3) years experience supporting a client/server network and Microsoft Windows Server administration and installation; OR
    Five (5) years experience supporting a client/server network and Microsoft Windows Server administration and installation.
    High school graduation supplemented by specialized training in computer repair and installation; OR
    Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
    Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) is required. Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and or VMware Certified Professional is highly desirable.
