Job Summary

• We are seeking an Audiobook Proofreader to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for critically analyzing and judging the quality and suitability of audiobook recordings for publication.

Key Responsibilities

• Listen to and read along with text to ensure accuracy, consistency, correct pronunciation, and quality of audio submissions.
• Research pronunciations, including American and British English as well as foreign languages.
• Diagnose audio issues and note corrections on an Excel spreadsheet.
• Create audio samples for our website.
• Perform light sound editing in Sound Forge.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in History, English, Literature, or a related field.
• Possess a love of reading and be willing to read all genres.
• Intermediate researching capabilities.
• Understanding of English vocabulary, particularly word pronunciation.
• Strong computer skills, with a focus on Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Able to meet strict deadlines and work independently.
• Focused and multitasking ability, including sitting and reading from a computer screen for extended periods.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• A positive attitude and willingness to help/train others.

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of foreign languages, such as Middle Eastern, Chinese, Gaelic, etc.
• Familiarity with audiobooks.
• Knowledge of American or British history and European dialects.
• Familiarity with audio listening software, such as Sound Forge, Pro-Tools, etc.
• Skill in writing and reading phonetics.
