IT Intern (Unpaid)
Summary
Pottawattamie County is offering an unpaid Information Technology Internship. This six-month internship will provide a practical, educational, hands-on experience rotation in IT areas such as helpdesk support, system administration and design, software updates, IT assets inventory and more.
This role focuses on mentorship, development, and shadowing IT professionals, allowing you to gain real industry knowledge.
Essential Functions
Performs basic technical support, troubleshooting, and data entry.
Provides basic ADA website accessibility support (configuration, updating, documenting).
Assists with support for client computing.
Utilize IT Department ticketing system to manage, track work, and log activities.
Essential Knowledge, Experience, And Ability
Knowledge of computer operations and software principles, including Microsoft Windows operating systems and Adobe Acrobat.
Knowledge of PC compatible hardware, software and ancillary equipment such as printers and scanners.
Utilize critical thinking to provide solutions/suggestions from information that may be confusing, disjointed, and/or incomplete.
Ability to exercise patience while communicating technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical users.
Establish and maintain productive working relationships with governmental officials, outside agencies, co-workers, and supervisors.
Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality with all communications, documents, and transactions as part of the IT customer service team.
Ability to type 25+ words per minute.
Ability to work independently with general supervision.
Essential Education, Certification, and/or Licenses
Have completed one year of college or technical school; or one year of related experience and/or training. Current student pursuing degree in IT, Computer Science, or similar preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Valid driver's license at the time of hire and maintain throughout the course of employment.
