    Job Title: Grammar School Art Teacher

    Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ), Grand Junction, CO

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Reports To: Dean of Grammar School

    Work days: M-F, School days, work days, and professional developments

    Compensation Range: $44,000 - $55,000 annually

    Start Date: August 1, 2024*

    *Please note all teachers will need to be able to attend teacher training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. Travel to the conference, as well as lodging and food, are covered by ACAGJ and Hillsdale.

    Position Summary

    At Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction(ACAGJ), teachers create their lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and in partnership with Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative. Teachers are dedicated to mastering the key elements of their instruction and to their students' intellectual and moral betterment. Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools teachers take seriously their moral and intellectual improvement as part of a hard-working, supportive, and excellence-driven culture.

    ACAGJ is seeking Art teachers for the school year.

    Art is an important aspect of classical education. Studying art is not the first step in cultivating skill; rather, it is the cultivation of knowledge and appreciation for skill, especially as observed in the best examples of it. The purpose of the art class is the apprehension of beauty, specifically as it is found in great works of art. We want our students to see things that are beautiful, to understand them (at least in part), and to be appropriately moved by them. Teaching students the skill or craft involved in composing such works is secondary, in order of both time and priority, within our integrated course of study. Art teachers at Ascent are expected to help students consider beauty properly through developing intellectual tools of the discipline such as the fundamentals of composition, the elements of art, as well as context and craft.

    Required Skills/Abilities

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Strong background in content areas; willingness to receive specific training
    • Eligibility to work in the United States
    • A satisfactory background check is required by state law and the Colorado Department of Education
    • Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
    • Loyalty to Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.'s (ACACS) mission and vision
    • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
    • Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
    • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment

    • Creative problem-solving skills
    • Willingness to perform other related duties as necessary

    Preferred skills/abilities:

    • Master's Degree is a bonus but not required
    • School experience

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
    • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust tone and height by bending or leaning
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach

    Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS. Through this partnership, MEG provides employment services, a personnel system for human resources, benefits, payroll services, and access to 401(k) plan. For naming purposes, Minga Education Group is the employer.
