    Position Overview:

    The RN Circulator provides care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, with primary emphasis on the

    intra-operative period as well as responsibility for the preoperative assessment and postoperative

    evaluation of the patient. The physical, psychological, safety, rehabilitative and learning needs of patients

    and family are addressed. These functions are performed in association with peers, attending physicians,

    anesthesiology department and allied support services. The RN delivers care through the use of the

    nursing process based on AORN Standards and encompasses both technical competency and

    professional behavior in all specialties provided for at Sutter Coast Hospital. Performs specialized duties

    as related to the department; Circulating Nurse, Scrub Nurse, Recovery Room Nurse. Takes call on a

    scheduled basis.

    Provides individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients through the use of the nursing process &

    documentation from admission to discharge. This includes & is not limited to: patient assessment by

    gathering information necessary to formulate a nursing diagnosis to be used as a basis for planning care by

    developing a written plan consistent with formulated nursing diagnosis. Implements care that is skillful,

    efficient, safe & based on patient care standards by performing nursing procedures required for patient

    assignments, providing the outlined care & documenting the care given & changes in the patient's condition

    in accordance with standards. Anticipates & recognizes potential problems & intervenes appropriately by

    correlating data, test results, progress notes & patient condition. Evaluates the degree of effectiveness &

    makes changes as needs are recognized. Provides leadership by managing care through others using

    Standards of Practice (TJC, Title XXII, Professional Practice Acts) & interpreting (or uses others to

    interpret) Standards of Practice to other staff which may include legal implications.

    EDUCATION

    Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

    Associate's or Bachelor's

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

    Required:

    RN-Registered Nurse of California

    BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

    ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support

    PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days of hire

    Preferred:

    CNOR-Certified Perioperative Nurse

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

    Minimum of 12 months Perioperative Nursing experience in an acute care facility within the past 3 years, with competence to function in the Circulating role. Prior experience in Post Anesthesia Care is desirable.

    to get along with co-workers, peers, and patients; ability to recognize potential hazards and follow

    appropriate precautions; ability to understand and remember detailed instructions.

    Competence to function in the scrub role is highly desirable.

    Demonstrated skill in providing intra-operative nursing care in the following service areas: Orthopedic,

    Ophthalmic, ENT/Plastic Surgery, General, Urologic, OB/GYN, and Endoscopy.

    Good interpersonal communication skills both oral & written, computer skills, knowledge of infection control

    practices, knowledge of applicable regulations and standards (AORN, TJC, CMS, Title 22), ability to

    operate clinical equipment in the pre-op, operative and PACU area, ability to be flexible and open to change

    while handling multiple priorities.

    Pay Range is $47.87 to $73.28 / hour

    The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
