- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Knowledge and skills in basic restorative nursing/therapy principles and practices

- Provides restorative programs:
- ROM; Ambulation
- Bed mobility, positioning, and transfer techniques
- Application of orthotics, braces, cones, prosthetic devices, and care of limbs where applied
- Assistive feeding devices and Restorative Dining techniques (cueing and swallowing)
- Activity of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene)
- Incontinent management
- Transfer
- Communication
- Topographical orientation with the use of a wheelchair
- Participates in restorative dining program, directs CNAs about resident restorative dining programs.
- Documents program completion daily and narrative progress notes as required by facility policy.
- Attends restorative meetings and care plan conferences.
- Reports unusual problems regarding resident care to nursing staff and/or supervisor immediately: pain, refusals, falls, etc.
- Reports malfunctioning or improperly fitting equipment and equipment needs to therapy and restorative coordinator.
- Places preventative/pressure relief mattresses and wheelchair cushions as directed by Supervisor.
- Offers suggestions and provides input into development of interdisciplinary plans of care.
- Assists with general orientation and on-going restorative in-services.
- Participates in the facility Quality Improvement Program as directed by Supervisor, and reports areas needing improvement.
- Keeps skills current and enhances present skills by attendance to in-services and seminars.
- Performs therapy delegated tasks under the direction and supervision of therapy.

Restorative PTA/COTA Job Summary:
Provides restorative programs for residents as assigned.
Provides therapy delegated programs that are taught and supervised by therapy and are beyond the scope and practice of a CNA.
This position is a nursing and therapy function and reports directly to the restorative coordinator or a position in the therapy department.
This position works closely with nursing and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to see residents receive their programs as planned.
