    Description

    Responsible for scheduling outpatient testing. Performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the unit including updating and organizing information on the unit; coordinating work within the unit and with other units and departments; reporting relevant information to the supervisor; and responding to inquiries and requests from patients and visitors.

    Performs all clerical/computer functions to support patient care testing.

    Schedules referrals from specialist offices, hospitals, community resources and all other agencies.

    Obtains prior authorization for all procedures and diagnostic tests as necessary.

    Follows current policy as applies to proper documentation of referrals.

    Coordinates daily patient flow activities.

    Stocks unit with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels.

    Answers the telephone in a professional manner and directs calls or takes messages.

    Faxes and photocopies information as requested by staff.

    Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.

    Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.

    Attends meetings as appropriate and scheduled.

    Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

    Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.

    Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.

    Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    Completes annual educational requirements.

    Understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

    Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.

    Computer and/or keyboarding skills required.
    Excellent human relations and oral/written communication.

    Knowledge of medical terminology

    Knowledge of regulations pertaining to prior authorization of tests and treatments.


    Minimum Education
    X High school diploma or equivalent □ Preferred X Required
    Preferred: Associates Degree in a healthcare related field

    Required Skills
    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

    Minimum Work Experience
    X Preferred: One year experience in a medical office
