    Description

    The primary responsibility of the Lead Boating Instructor is to ensure all Instructors and members are properly trained and onboarded, to identify and monitor training needs in the organization, and to provide exceptional service to our members & crew. This is a seasonal position, with availability required from April through October. Availability on weekends and holidays is necessary.

    Lead Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hiring, training, coaching and continued development of Instructors
  • Ensure all Instructors have proper certifications and up-to-date training
  • Oversee and coordinate with a local instructor the scheduling of training needs to ensure work is distributed consistently and fairly
  • Review and approve payroll
  • Complete, with feedback and assistance from team members, performance evaluations
  • Conduct required classroom and on the water curriculum training for new Instructors
  • Explain, demonstrate, and emphasize all safety aspects of jobs and tasks; review any applicable job safety analysis with Instructors
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through periodic job shadowing of member trainings
  • Review existing training programs; suggest enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of members, the organization, or the industry
  • Ensure that training materials and programs are current, accurate, and effective
  • Maintain knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and/or industry
  • Identify problems and opportunities such as operational changes or industry developments that training could improve
  • Provide training data and metrics to management team
  • Review incident reports and assess and coordinate additional training needs
  • Provide support and coordination to other departments including but not limited to dock operations, sales and marketing, and community investment
  • Provide leadership and guidance to other instructors
  • Facilitate all hand's meetings
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • Instructor Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome new members
  • Organize and effectively conduct member classroom and on the water training on various skill, policy, and compliance areas
  • Identify areas in which additional training is required and/or beneficial
  • Record training certifications in Reservation system
  • Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude during periods of high activity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of training processes
  • Ability to effectively teach others
  • Excellent interpersonal and observational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner credential
  • Boating safety ID card (NASBLA)
  • Vessel livery operator's certification
  • Experience driving, maneuvering, and docking vessels
  • Active employment in the role being taught including educational and experience requirements needed to be hired for the role
  • At least one year of experience performing the job being taught
  • Successful completion of the company's training course for Instructors required
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods standing/walking
  • Prolonged periods driving to dock locations
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times
  • Vision adequate to read / manipulate handheld devices
  • Must be able to perform all operations necessary for training
  • Must be able to assess proficiency of trainees
