    job summary:


    A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area.

    This job entails designing, testing, and commissioning custom switchgear and generator control systems, requiring expertise in PLC programming, control system design, CAD, project management, and compliance with industry regulations.

    responsibilities:

    • Executing and supporting the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear controlling multiple generators parallel to one or more utility sources.
    • Providing direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling switchgear controls.
    • Interacting with internal and external customers to accomplish project milestones.
    • Creating a bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in the ERP system.
    • Creating PLC programs for controlling generator paralleling switchgear.
    • Executing multiple projects simultaneously.

    Technical Skills (Required):

    • Ability to create PLC programs using one of the IEC 61131 PLC Programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text).
    • Designing, testing, and commissioning control systems with experience in interfacing and designing controls with different manufacturers.
    • Developing control software utilizing various PLC platforms, with expert knowledge in at least one of the following: Schneider Momentum, M340, M580, AB Control, Compact Logix, Woodward MSLC, DSLC, Easy Gen, and LS5 Architecture.
    • Interpreting customer specifications and drawings and ing them to design platforms while considering industry regulations and requirements.
    • Customizing PLC software and hardware templates.

    Technical Skills (Desired):

    • Understanding in detail the applicable NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements and their applications in switchgear controls.
    • Understanding protective relays and their functions associated with Generator and Utility protection applications.

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred.
    • 5-7 years of experience required.
