- Associates degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Active Substance Use Disorder Professional certification (CP) in the state of Washington required.
- Required substance use disorder counseling hours as outlined by WAC ,500 hours for individuals who hold an AA, 2,000 hours with a baccalaureate degree, 1,500 hours with a master or doctoral degree or 1,000 for individuals credentialed according to WAC

The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) is a member of the psychiatry nursing team whose primary duties and responsibilities are to provide individualized care to patients with substance abuse disorders. This includes educating patients on the consequences of substance abuse, teaching patients coping mechanisms to assist them in achieving recovery and staying in recovering and assessing and recommending continuing treatment or support upon discharge.
