The EP Lab Clinician RN is an integral member of the catheterization lab team and demonstrates clinical expertise and advanced decision making skills, serves as a resource for peers, co-workers, and patients/families and assumes leadership responsibilities assigned by the cath lab manager.
scrub device related procedure ; Hemodynamic monitoring/analysis; perform pacing protocols ; measuring and document arrhythmias; perform 3D mapping; imaging; physiologic monitoring, analysis, and documentation; circulating; anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis; blood gas and chemistry monitoring/analysis; administration of medications, administration of blood components; procedure assisting; inventory management and control; database entry; and any other duties as assigned.
Additionally, the EP Lab Clinician Senior RN is responsible for maintenance and direction of quality improvement, maintenance and direction of inventory control, and immediate clinical level leadership of all EP personnel.
Additionally, the ability to follow device patients (pacemaker, ICD, ILR) and perform device interrogation and analysis of in office ICD and pacemaker and of remote monitoring reports for ICD and Pacemakers.
The EP Lab Clinician RN shall provide age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients.
Individuals must understand and follow physician, departmental, and Nationwide Children's Hospital policies and procedures, documentation required by ODH, Radiation Safety Officer, CLIA, CAP, and JCAHO.

Responsibilities:
Operates cardiac catheterization, EP, and intervention equipment as ordered by the physicians.
Administration of drugs, and blood products under the orders and supervision of a physician.
Set-up, calibrate and frequently checks the audio, video, physiologic, electrophysiologic, imaging, and electronic monitoring apparatus and draws blood samples for laboratory tests from the indwelling arterial catheter as appropriate.
Identifies and has knowledge of the application and technical aspects of all equipment and supplies used in all EP procedures.
Operates, maintains, calibrates and documents all of the necessary laboratory equipment as specified by Point of Care Testing.
Performs chemistry, blood gas, co-oximetry, and activated clotting time in the Catheterization and EP Suites for patients undergoing related procedures.
Applies necessary skills and monitoring to obtain manual compression to achieve hemostasis of vessels and application of appropriate dressings post procedure, to exclude the use of closure devices
Coordinates, delegates and documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner.
Responsible for patient/family teaching of the procedure including discharge instructions and follow-up care.
Communicates in a positive manner with the patient and family members throughout the procedure.
Demonstrates advanced decision making skills in problem identification and resolution.
Works with Senior EP Nurse to coordinate care of all device patients (ICD, PM, ILR).
This includes but is not limited to all inpatient and outpatient device checks, remote monitoring and maintenance of OPTIMA database.
In addition, is a resource for families as well as cardiology for questions and issues related to device patients.
Participate in continuing educational programs with physicians and other health professionals in an effort to advance medical, catheterization and interventional, and EP technology.
Shall carry a beeper and share call with EP nursing counterpart and is able to respond to emergencies within 60 minutes of a page.
Provides in-service programs to hospital employees and maintains knowledge of current technology.
Keep records of procedures and departmental functions for efficient department operation including Pyxis and charge data collection, Infection Control activities and CLIA/CAP procedures.
Attends Heart Center in-services including weekly Cardiac Surgical, Catheterization, and QI conferences.
Participates in Patient Care Services and hospital activities including policy and procedure review and revision, committee attendance and participation, and patient/family advocacy.
Demonstrates professional growth through support of clinical research and data to respected educational sessions, support of colleagues' research and data collection, assistance with FDA sponsored clinical trials, and assistance with collection and development of QI/QA database information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The EP Lab Clinician RN is distinguished from the Cath Lab Clinician RN by:
No less than Two years of relevant clinical experience.
Ability to independently function in at least two of the three roles assigned during an EP case (Scrub, Monitor, Circulate).
Independent ability to perform PPM/ICD evaluation and programming under the supervision of a physician, non-clinical leadership responsibilities for the EP department at the discretion of the cath lab manager.
