    Job Description:

    Objective:
    The Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care reflecting initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
    Handles emergency situations with skill and accuracy, while maintaining a calm demeanor.
    Effectively performs assessments on all patients prior to beginning chemotherapy infusion.
    Accurately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Effectively educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

    Accurately interprets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's specific needs and provide care needed to the patient.

    Reviews labs and assesses patient's response to treatment in a timely manner.

    Ensures all aspects of patient care are performed in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.

    Strictly adheres to the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors, following Oncology guidelines and MOASD policies and procedures.

    Adheres to prescribing information guidelines for proper reconstitution, dilution and/or preparation of chemotherapy for administration.
    Formulates an effective teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Provides emotional support and includes family as appropriate. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
    Provides an interdisciplinary approach to patient care by effectively consulting with other health team members / departments.
    Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families, in accordance with MOASD standards.
    Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
    Effectively orients new employees.
    Maintains a professional demeanor, is OCN certified or willing to become OCN certified within 2 years of hire date.
    Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Shows initiative for professional practice and pursuing ongoing education.

    Experience, Qualifications/Education:


    High school diploma or equivalent requiredGraduate of an accredited School of NursingCurrent California Registered Nurse License and CPR certification requiredApproximately three years Oncology nursing experienceOncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.

    Strong customer service background, preferably in healthcare environmentExcellent verbal communication skillsKnowledge of drug names, both brand and generic, and available dosage formsAbility to manage and prioritize multiple tasksProficiency in computer processing functions and other standard office equipmentAbility to calmly and professionally resolve customer issues with diplomacy and tactAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong organizational skillsWorking Conditions:
    This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste, hazardous chemicals and other medically-related factors levels.

    Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions.

    May occasionally be asked to work over time.


    Travel:
    Travel between local offices when necessary.
