- Lead advocacy efforts related to employment law that impact LeadingAge members.
- Work for LeadingAge and in coalition with partners to engage with federal agencies (including Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Judiciary) as well as members of Congress on employment related issues in aging services. Provide members regular updates through a variety of communication channels.
- Lead advocacy efforts that preserve the tax-deductible contribution benefit for donors and tax‑exempt status for members.
- Lead staff involvement in tracking, compiling, and analyzing state and federal court cases, and federal statutes and regulations on legal issues concerning members.
- Develop and implement strategies to influence Congress and the Executive Branch on LeadingAge issues.
- Serve as resource for LeadingAge members, Congress and the Executive Branch, and other organizations on legal and legislative issues of concern to LeadingAge members.
- Develop and maintain relations with and represent LeadingAge before other organizations interested in long‑term services and supports and non‑profit status.
- Assist in the development of LeadingAge educational efforts on legal issues.
- Maintain membership of and regularly convene Legal Advisors and General Counsels, including monthly meetings and separate gatherings in conjunction with Annual Meeting. Take issues that come up in the Policy team to Legal groups for advice and input.
- Serve as point person on selected issues related to assisted living, working with the VP, Health Policy. Participate as LeadingAge representative on coalition efforts related to national assisted living standard setting and model practices, including the Quality Assisted Living Coalition. Maintain and coordinate the LeadingAge Assisted Living Member Network.

- J.D. from accredited law school required; minimum 10 years' related legal experience in long‑term care, healthcare, housing or elder law issues; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Should be admitted to the Bar in one or more states.
- In addition to a thorough understanding of state and federal court systems, knowledge of the congressional, legislative, and state/federal regulatory process is required. Background in areas such as professional liability, fair housing and disability law, health care fraud and abuse desirable. Litigation experience very important. Excellent legal research and writing skills are mandatory. Computer‑literacy needed.
- Demonstrated ability to "think outside the box" in finding creative approaches to complicated issues and ability to function efficiently in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
- Ability to learn/translate/refer to large amounts of technical material and produce extensive communications.
- Ability to travel to external meetings both locally and nationally, including periodic overnight travel.
- Normal work requires frequent use telephone and computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse).
- Ability to be mobile at Annual Meeting; Leadership Summit Conference; and other meetings and events.
- May be required to move about frequently in the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, attend meetings, etc.
- May require standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time during meetings and conferences.
- Unlimited vacation after successful completion of the introductory period; 15 hours of volunteer time; 22.5 hours of personal time.

Job Description
This position requires weekly in-office work (3 days) in our Washington D.C. office under a hybrid working model.
The VP of Legal Affairs oversees all law-related issues affecting LeadingAge members, particularly but not exclusively in the areas of fair housing/discrimination, disability law, employment law, and professional liability and tort law. In addition, the VP stays abreast of federal and state statutes, regulations, and cases that may have an impact on LeadingAge members and provides consultation, advice and/or direction, as well as provides information to our members and/or their legal representatives. The VP also develops and maintains relations with other organizations interested in long-term services and non-profit organizations, and supports legal issues, and serves as a resource to LeadingAge members, other organizations, Congress and the Executive Branch on issues of concern to members. Oversees LeadingAge legal committee activities, including requests for legal assistance. The VP of Legal Affairs reports to the Senior VP of Public Policy.
This position will advance the LeadingAge annual public policy and advocacy agenda and advance key relationships.
