    About Our Agency
    The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of:
    • intellectual disability and related disabilities
    • autism spectrum disorder
    • traumatic brain injury
    • spinal cord injury and similar disability
    Job Responsibilities
    Under the limited supervision of the Director of Internal Audit, this position is:
    • Responsible for managing and facilitating the Agency's Administrative Reviews regarding Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (ANE) cases for five (5) Regional Centers and five (5) Autism Homes. Required to attend and participate in all Administrative Reviews including critical incidents.
    • Responsible for following up with Regional Centers and Autism Homes to confirm and document that all corrective actions have been thoroughly completed in a timely manner.
    • Works collaboratively with Regional Centers, Risk Management, Quality Management-Regional Centers, and Human Resources to develop plans and provide training to mitigate the occurrence of Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of all consumers at Regional Centers.
    • Monitors third-party compliance hotline for proper disposition of complaints received. Investigates employee complaints and adopts the appropriate steps to respond to and address the complaints. Reports violations of compliance or regulatory standards to duly authorized agency personnel as appropriate or required. Works with management and the Human Resources Division to identify and investigate compliance incidents that violate the organization's compliance programs. Supports management in their role as a liaison for any complaints and/or investigations related to compliance.
    • Compiles data and observes trends related to Administrative Reviews of Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) and Critical Incident cases. Identifies, addresses, and escalates, if needed, recurrences.

    Minimum and Additional Requirements

    A bachelor's Degree and (2) years of experience with healthcare or the disabilities and special needs population; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A Juris Doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school.

    Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

    State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
