    Charles Health System, located in the breathtaking ski town of Bend, Oregon, is seeking a talented Medical Physicist to join our growing team.

    We are currently a single-location, hospital-based clinic with a second site actively in development. We operate with Raystation 11B, MIM Maestro and SureCalc, a full SunNuclear deployment, and Mosaiq EMR. We have two Elekta linacs but are starting a multi-year transition to Varian with Aria.

    Brainlab Exactrac Dynamic is available for patient surface tracking, as well as traditional stereoscopic xray support for an active cranial SRS program.

    We offer deep adoption of hypofractionation and a broad SBRT program. Patient census averages around 55 pts/day. We are adding an HDR program in summer 2023 on the Varian Bravos platform.

    SCHS is a credentialed clinical training site for a leading dosimetrist training program. Staffing includes three Physicists, four Dosimetrists, one dedicated IT analyst, and five Radiation Oncologists.

    The successful candidate will be a fourth Physicist positioned as a scientific and technical expert for the department, assuring safe, effective, and accurate delivery of radiation to achieve desirable therapeutic results as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.


    Concordance with AAPM, ASTRO, and ACR recommendations is expected, as is compliance with Oregon Health Authority and NRC regulations, and Joint Commission requirements.

    Physicists are expected to produce clear, appropriate documentation and communications to ensure high-quality patient care, participate as needed in radiation safety efforts, and to participate in continuing education staying abreast of progressive quality control methods, patient treatment techniques, and department management methods.

    DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
    The Cancer Center at St. Charles Health System is a comprehensive clinic providing complete care to our patients. In this growing department the Physicist works closely with the radiation oncologists and dosimetrists.

    Our center is also a clinical training site for various specialties by affiliation with prominent regional programs, including Medical Dosimetry.

    Clinical efforts feature cranial SRS, multiple SBRT sites, HDR brachytherapy, clinical trial participation, and progressive treatment techniques. St. Charles Health System maintains active IROC credentialing. Clinical tools include Raystation, MIM, Brainlab Dynamic, a full Sun Nuclear suite, and Mosaiq.


    The cancer center also provides chemotherapy, medical oncology, infusion services, integrative medicine, nutrition, social work, survivorship, and other supportive care treatments.


    POSITION OVERVIEW:
    The Medical Physicist at St.

    Charles Health System provides all reasonable aspects of Medical Physics support to Cancer Services Radiation Therapy as a scientific and technical expert for the department.

    The physicist assures safe, effective, and accurate delivery of radiation to achieve desirable therapeutic results as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, by applying AAPM, ASTRO, and ACR recommendations.

    They must produce clear, appropriate documentation and communication to ensure high-quality patient care.

    This position maintains Oregon Health Authority and NRC regulatory compliance and participates as needed in radiation safety efforts for the Cancer Center, and St.

    Charles Health System.

    The physicist participates in continuing education to stay abreast of progressive quality control methods, patient treatment techniques, and department management techniques.

    This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
    Provides all medical physics services and related functions for Cancer Services.


    Maintains the technical quality, calibration, and accuracy of radiation treatment equipment and hardware including but not limited to: all linear accelerators, on-board imaging systems, CT simulators, HDR brachytherapy afterloaders, and all supporting quality-assurance equipment.


    Maintains technical quality and accuracy of the Raystation treatment planning system, Mosaiq record and verify system, and associated computer systems/interfaces.

    Makes recommendations for purchase or replacement of software and hardware systems as needed.

    Participates in continuous-improvement initiatives.

    Researches methods and techniques which enhance the precision of radiation treatments. Develops education plans and disseminates this information to caregivers.

    Provides specific patient services such as special physics consultations, special dosimetry consultations, and computerized treatment planning as needed. Collects patient-specific TLD in-vivo dosimetry measurements as needed.

    Reviews daily quality assurance metrics, performs weekly chart reviews per HCFA requirements, provides any needed patient-specific calculations, etc.

    Provides deformable image and dose registrations to the Radiation Oncologist. Maintains technical accuracy and quality controls over the deformation systems (Raystation and MIM).

    Supports departmental development initiatives such as participation in clinical trials, and student education opportunities.

    Assists in patient-care procedures as requested by the Radiation Oncologists.

    Submits timely and accurate physics charges. Maintains familiarity with job-relevant CMS guidance.

    Provides appropriate oversight as custodian of radioactive materials in Radiation Oncology. This includes but is not limited to HDR Ir-192 sources and any QA sources.

    Serves as a member of, or provide reports to, the Radiation Safety Committee as necessary.

    Assist the hospital RSO as necessary.


    Actively participates in modern quality assurance and quality improvement programs that conform to AAPM recommendations, Joint Commission requirements, and Oregon Health Authority and NRC regulations.

    EDUCATION:

    Required:
    An accredited graduate degree in a science or engineering field relevant to the clinical practice of Medical Physics.

    Preferred:
    Masters, DMP, or Ph.
    D. degree in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP-accredited program.


    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

    Required:
    Certification by the American Board of Radiology or a commensurate Medical Specialties Board.

    Preferred:
    Active status on NRC, or Agreement State, Radioactive Materials License.


    EXPERIENCE:

    Required:
    Two (2) years as a clinical Medical Physicist, Medical Physics Assistant, or Medical Physics Resident.


    Preferred:
    CAMPEP-Accredited Residency.


    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
    Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
