- Direct daily and long-term operations to ensure a safe, clean, efficient, and pleasant environment economically and promptly.
- Supervise and mentor paid staff, interns, and volunteers to foster teamwork, shared responsibility, and achievement.
- Collaborate with different departments to enhance overall operations, facilities, systems, and infrastructure while supporting the Science Center's Mission and Strategic Plan.
- Create and manage short- and long-term goals, objectives, and budgets for the Operations Division to guarantee appropriate fund allocation.
- Develop and execute a 10-year capital plan and oversee maintenance programs.
- Manage facility renovations, construction projects, and vendor relationships to maintain quality standards within budget and on schedule.
- Establish partnerships with vendors, contractors, and community entities, and serve as the liaison for the Facilities Committee.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, codes, and guidelines related to facilities and accessibility.
- Promote energy efficiency and sustainability practices throughout the Science Center.
- Participate in meetings, provide input for policy development, and represent the Science Center in various events.
- Preferably a Master's degree; Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field required.
- Five to seven years of experience in administration, facility management, or project management.
- Experience with building operating systems, HVAC, sustainable design, and budget management.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, strategic planning, and negotiation skills.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Managing Director, Operations plays a key role in overseeing building and grounds maintenance, protection services, risk management, sustainability practices, accessibility, property development, and capital improvements.
Being part of the Science Center Leadership Team, the position actively contributes to the organization's strategy, policy development, and operational activities at the Saint Louis Science Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL SKILLS:
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Oversees the management of 400,000 square feet of facilities across 17 acres, with an expense budget of $3.3 million and capital budgets ranging from $1 to 8 million, leading a team of 42 Full-Time Equivalents (FTE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The role may involve traversing various areas of the Science Center facility, including responding to emergencies and monitoring project work, occasionally exposed to different elements.
