Job DescriptionSUMMARY
Under the direction of the Bindery Manager, the Stitcher Operator sets up, adjusts and operates Stitcher equipment to finish product or prepare product for stitching or other binding finishing operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Arrive at work station at or before start of shift
•Setup and run all jobs that require stitching assignments
•Review job tickets and plan work process to ensure customer specification compliance
•Review job specifications/requirements for determination of page sequence, type of stitching, and/or signature
•Set-up stitcher and obtain pre-run approval from bindery manager or supervisor
Set-up and run requirements:
Select proper stitching wire
- Adjust and prepare machine settings for job size, cut and quantity
- Load material into pocket(s)
- Examine make ready stitched material for accuracy of size, cut, cross overs (if applicable) and adjust as needed to meet job specification
- Conduct random QC pulls during run to ensure quality and maintaining job specification and performance
- Remove finished or pre-finished material from the stitcher; pack and identify material for the appropriate finishing process (complete or incomplete). Route material to its required destination
•Ensure the completion of jobs meeting quality and quantity requirements
•Perform all required maintenance to equipment according to departmental procedures and manufacturer's specification
•Troubleshoot equipment problems, remedy or repair where applicable, and notify bindery manager or supervisor as needed
•Complete, post and maintain all required administrative documentation correctly e.g. records, logs, time sheets etc.
•Responsible for all helpers assigned
•Notify manager or supervisor when supplies need replenishment
•Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations such as the use of required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) safety footwear, hearing protection etc.
•Maintain departmental housekeeping standards
•All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
•Minimum 1-3 years as a Stitching Operator preferably in the Graphics Arts Industry
•Ability to operate stitching machines and a variety of small hand tools and precision measuring devices may, be required to operate a folder or cutter
•Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
•Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, job jackets, press imposition and rule-up sheets
•Must be mechanically inclined
•Must have basic electronic and computer keyboard knowledge
•Physical dexterity:
-Ability to stand and walk 95% of the time (safety shoes required, company participates in cost)
-Extensive lifting, bending, twisting and stretching
-Frequently lift and handle average-weight material and up to 75lbs
-Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
•Manufacturing environment with noise exposure to varying levels. (Hearing protection provided)
•Ability to direct fellow crew members in the overall operation involved in the job and effectively communicate with other employees of the organization
