    Summary



    This position is located at the W.G. "Bill" Hefner Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Salisbury, NC, in the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service.



    Duties


    Duties:

    • Demonstrates specialized knowledge and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care.
    • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.
    • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
    • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in process improvement initiatives.
    • The Nurse I, Level 2 Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed.
    • The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.
    • They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team..
    • They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
    • The NM seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
    • They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
    • They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
    • They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
    • Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks ensuring assigned delegated tasks are completed by team members.
    • Manages nursing care of patients, organizes, and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary.
    • Applies high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve patient outcomes.
    • Treats all patients, families and other caregivers with dignity and respect incorporating knowledge, values, and beliefs into nursing care delivery without judgement or discrimination.
    • Seeks out new learning opportunities and shares evidence-based practice/research with peers to improve patient care.
    • Shares techniques to deliver cost-effective care with peers.
    • Responsible for time scheduling of the unit, coaches staff, deals with employee conduct and performance issues, completes recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
    • Works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles.
    • Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training (VA Handbook 5007, Part III, Chapter 8).
    • Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
    • Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
    Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
